WXG VII Chat: Hana Beaman
Welcome to the EXPN.com moderated chat room. On Saturday, February 1, pro snowboarder Hana Beaman will drop by to host a special Winter X Games VII chat.
Hana went nuts at the 2002 World Championships, taking first place in both Big Air and Slopestyle. She also cracked the top five in her first Winter X Games event, taking fifth in Slopestyle. She is the only female member of the Grenade crew and spends most of her time in Mammoth, Calif. Between traveling the world living the snowboard dream and showing up in Aspen to compete in Winter X Games VII, Hana has had little time to relax. Take advantage of this opportunity to ask her whatever the hell you want to know and see if your question makes the cut.
Stefanie (Oakland, CA): Hey Hannah,what do you think about Big Air being booted out of Winter X?  Hana Beaman: um i think its alright but i kinda wish they still had it just cause its one more event to do and it's fun. but whatever. i'm just stoked to be in the X games, knowattimeen.
go go, San Fran: ya ya hana, lots of people picking you to blow it up at X. Whatcha say about that? Whatcha say? Hana Beaman: well. um thats always a compliment. i'd be so happy to win or just do my best. i try not to think about it. but all i got to say is don't believe the hype, just watch the game. and wish me some luck. hehehe
Stefan, Calgary, Alberta: with the olympic drug testing do u think that someone who drops into a superpipe while high should get a bonus on thier score instead of being d/q? Hana Beaman: hell yeah i do, personally if i smoked while i rode, i would run off a cliff. i don't know how all those people do it. drug testing is lame.
Hasting,MN: u are the bomb man even tho som people doubt that. u are my hero because u are axactly the same as me, i am goin to the x game to watch u next winter baby PeAcE cory Hana Beaman: gee thanx. i'm glad you're stoked on my riding. maybe i'll see you around at aspen.
dave (boulder): hana, you're hot! What kind of guy do you like? Does he have to ride (snowboards) as well as you? Hana Beaman: um i have a wide taste in men. i guess i would say i like funny, confident guys , but whatever i look for those special quallities in all guys.
boarder x, boulder: What's a nice girl like you doing riding for Kass and Ko. and the Grenades? Hana Beaman: um, i don't know what you're talking about. i'm a mean little girl. hehehe. really i'm not too sure. i just have a lot of fun w/ all of them. they bring out the best in me. plus i like too make fun of them all. hehe
Travis (lv, nev): Haaana - do you like studded belts? Hana Beaman: you think i don't?
sally (brooklyn): hana, you are my favorite girl rider! I want to ollie my board, but i can't do it that well. do you have any tips? Hana Beaman: well, to ollie, all you have to do is lean back on your tail, then use your legs to pull up. the key is to really use your legs. don't expect the board to do all the work. oh yeah, it kinda helps if your board is kinda stiffer. just remember...legs.
chris (slc): Hi Hana, you rip! I saw that you won a bunch of cash at the Sims contest last year in Vail, what did you do with it all? Hana Beaman: well i spent a lot of it on sushi and "sody pop" for my friends. the rest of it i lent to my parents to build our house in Big bear. its gonna be sick.
jason: Hana.. what is your favorite trick to pull? Hana Beaman: right now i'm starting to get really stoked on cab spins. they're super fun and are getting easier.
JJ: is the X games your favorite event? Hana Beaman: although the "X-treme" games are super fun cause there's a lot of people and crasy sh8 going on i would say my fave event would be the world quarterpipe championships. they've been in waterville valley the last who knows how many years, and they are notorious for an "interesting" time for one and all. this year they're going to be in boston.
hana rules: Where are you headed after X? Hana Beaman: after X i'm going to my friend Travis Rices home town, Jackson Hole Wy, to shoot a totally extreme show for NBC. then i go on a road trip with Vans, then i'm off to the wonderous land of little poeple and electronics, japan. yeah its gonna be soo sick.
Joey: do you have any superstitions? Hana Beaman: na, i try not to get caught in that.
Josh (North'd): Hey hana u rip, how do u get qualified for the xgames? Hana Beaman: you can get to X G if you go to one of the Vans triple crowns and land a spot in the top 3 or so. or you can do good in any of the bigger contests of the year. persistance is key
hillary, New Jersey: Hey Hana, whats up?, i just wanted to say you rip! do you plan on being on the east coast anytime soon? for like the US Open or anything Hana Beaman: yeah fur sure. i'll be over there for the open and for the world quarters. i'm also considering going out to film with some buddies like Shane Flood, John cavan and some of the other easterners.
New Jersey: hey Hana whats up?, what do you think of the younger kid ruling the contests like hannah teter, torah bright, shaun white, luke mitrani and all of the others? does it ever get frustrating that someone few years younger than you does better? Hana Beaman: i am so stoked on all the younger riders! all these up and coming kids are killing it and i love to see them do it. hannah is going insainly huge in the pipe and torah just keeps getting better. luke is so cute and he's better than i could have ever imagined. and i don't get frustrated cause we are all doing our own thing. I just try to concentrate on what i'm doing and not worry about those younger kids. there's room enough for the lot of us.
East Aurora: YO U R the best I can do a 180 but cant do a 360, can u give me sum tips? Hana Beaman: all i can tell you is to just keep trying. its all you have to do. try try again. that and to look where you're going.
Fifi (Hoboken): Give us some dirt on the Grenade crew. What kind of scandalous shizit have you seen/heard? Hana Beaman: well well well. i cant divulge some of that information but, i can tell you that there is just to many stories to write about but, will be some funny shite in the next vid. p.s. den den is trying out for a roll in the new tarzan. hehehe
Hillary, New Jersey: wow, two people from new jersey in a row...You say your going to be on the east, have you ever ridden Mountain Creek in New Jersey?.. Hana Beaman: no thats the one place i fel that i need to ride cuz danbo and kev and all the guys grew up there. i'm gonna try to get to that one too, if i have the time.
