The Women of Winter X VI
Megan Brown (SKI)
The former member of the U.S. Ski Team is always a threat to her competitors. Although she was plagued with injuries throughout her World Cup career, Brown has stayed healthy during her Skier X campaign and is expected to do well this year.
Barrett Christy (SBD)
One of Snowboarding's best, Christy not only holds the record for most Winter X Games medals for a female, she is also an Olympian. With 10 X Games medals to her name, including a gold from the Big Air contest at X Games V, Barrett Christy has established herself as one of the top snowboarders around. Christy has consistently done well in the Winter X Games Slopestyle and Pipe competitions and finished second in last year's Big Air competition.
Aleisha Cline (SKI)
Winning her second Winter X Gold medal was just the beginning of a stellar season last year for the 24-year-old part-time pro skier/pro mountain bike racer. Cline followed up her second Winter X medal by winning the Freeskiing World Tour and then taking 12th place overall in the NORBA National Championship Mountain Bike Series in 2001. As if that were not enough to keep her busy for one season, she and fellow mountain biker Shamus March were married in July.
Tara Dakides (SBD)
Tara should once again continue her tradition of raising the bar of technical trickery in women's Snowboarding. In 2001 alone, the Laguna Niguel, Calif. native stood atop the podium at the Winter X Games, the VANS Triple Crown, and the World Snowboarding Championships. Dakides has five X Games medals to date: four gold and one silver.
Shannon Dunn (SBD)
In 2001, Dunn yet again showed the entire world why she is one of Snowboarding's best. Not only did she win SuperPipe and place second in Slopestyle at Winter X V, she also placed second in the Halfpipe competition at the U.S. Open in March. The 1998 Olympic Bronze Medallist is expected to have another great winter this year and add to her already impressive resume that includes four Winter X medals.
Chiara Lawrence (SKI)
A newcomer to the sport of Skier X, Lawrence has wasted no time climbing to the top. Perhaps one of the most successful women in the sport, she has won back-to-back medals at the Winter X Games.
Natasza Zurek (SBD)
After taking the silver in the SuperPipe competition at last year's Winter X, Natasza went on to secure a spot on the Canadian National Snowboarding Team. A native of Poland, Zurek already has two X Games medals to her name and is all but guaranteed to win many more. The 23-year old is a quiet but fierce competitor who can effortlessly throw powerful overhead McTwists, and 720's and still easily maintain amplitude and technical savvy during her runs.
