MOUNT SNOW, Vt. Velvet Eyewear has one of the sickest women's snowboard teams around. They've got the Winter X Games covered on all angles. If you want competition halfpipe results you could not ask for a better "one-two" punch than Shannon Dunn and Cara-Beth Burnside.
Shannon has already got two Winter X medals (Halfpipe Silver in '99 and Gold in '97) and sports a competitive halfpipe history from 2000 that's got more firsts than anything else. Burnside has finshed in the top five of Winter X halfpipe for the last three years and also boasts a pretty hefty competitive record from over the last five years.
If you're into freeriding and Slopestyle, then Velvet's got your Winter X Games hookup too. Janna Meyen and Roberta Rodger are both at the top of technical freeride game.
Shannon: Really, do they know all about Janna's father? (laughs) Janna: What? What are you talking about? Shannon: Just kidding. If you guys could endorse any product what would it be? Shannon: Disneyland. That way I could get free passes and have fun with all my friends. Really? Did you know that ESPN and Disney are relatives? Shannon: No. Can you get me hookups? Maybe. We'll see how you do this weekend. How about you Janna? Janna: Red Bull, definitely Red Bull. Roberta: Hmmm. I don't know, probably Macintosh. I take my computer everywhere with me, which is funny since I forgot it this time. If you had your choice of any music performer to play at your party, who would it be? Shannon: Faith Hill Janna: Metallica Roberta: J-Lo. That's what us fans call Jennifer Lopez. What about Puffy? Could he come too? Roberta: I don't know. He's kind of sketchy with those guns of his. Now for our total pop culture question, Backstreet Boys or N'Sync? Britney or Christina? Shannon: I'll answer both! Janna: I'll pass on both. Shannon: Backstreet Boys. I got totally hooked on it after Janna lent me her compact disc (laughs). Britney too. I actually bought it to annoy Janna in the car. Roberta: N'Sync all the way. The Boys just got some funky stuff going on now. That one guy has that weird hairdo, with hair down to his waist, I don't know about that. Britney too, she just has better dance moves than Christina. Here is the Survivor inspired question. What one luxury item would you bring with you to a deserted island? Shannon: My surfboard definitely. No worries about food or anything? Shannon: Food schmood. Janna: I would bring my mini disc player and my music for sure. What music do you have in it? Janna: Umm ... Metallica. Metallica again? Are you a hessian or what? Roberta: She's a true hessian at heart. I would bring my Mac Powerbook, I love that thing. I love to play with the Photoshop and I Movie programs. What about power? Roberta: It's got real good batteries or we'd figure out some solar powering. What about the funniest thing you've ever seen on a snowboard? Roberta: Oh I've got the best story ever. We are at Mount Hood this summer, it's me, Shannon and Leslie (Roberta's Chorus Snowbords teammate and those guys decide to ride by and moon the people at this fashion photoshoot. So they take off and as Shannon is pulling down her pants she catches her edge and falls right in front of everyone. Shannon: I was stuck there feeling all dumb. Roberta: Yeah and Leslie ends up being the only one that shows her butt. One more. Here's a little Vermont trivia for you. Montpelier is the only state capital without what? Shannon: A courthouse? Janna: Electricity, sewage system? Roberta: I'm from Canada! How about a second guess? It's a restaurant. Shannon: McDonalds! Yep. Thanks guys! Be sure to check out the Velvet Girls; Roberta, Janna, and Shannon in Friday's Slopestyle event. You can also check out Shannon on Saturday morning in the Superpipe event. ![]() | |||||||||||||||||
