Peter Line Reporting: Day 1

Well, it's the first official day of competition here at Winter X. It's been snowing quite a bit here. I had quite an interesting day.

I ran into my buddy Jason Borgstede during Slopestyle practice and I had to ask him what what was on his mind.

Jason Borgstede: "Well, I'm going to go down and pour some more water on the landings so they will get harder for everybody. I have a little water tank on the back of my bindings and it hoses out right after I go."

Peter Line mingles with the crowd at Winter X 2001.

So we're talking a typical snowboard sabotage, Nancy Kerrigan-Tonya Harding style then right?

Jason Borgstede: "Pretty much. I had mechanics put into the jumps you hit this summer at Mt. Hood and it moved the landing in on you when you went. I know you didn't know that but it's over now and we can still be friends. I just had to let you know it happened."

Thank you for getting that on tape so my lawyers can have a field day with you. But then again you really don't have that much money so I'll let that one slide.

Jason Borgstede: "You can take all $12 of mine and the cat food I had for dinner."

Thanks man.

Hey, look who is here. It's Chris Gunnerson, A.K.A Gunner, head jump builder, course designer, runner-sticker-iner. What do you have to say about the course?

Chris Gunnerson: "I'm really stoked it started snowing and slowing everything down because those landings are good and firm and we really need people to hang up just before the lip so they can really spank their mellon right on the coping. Overall the course is really good and the riders seem pretty stoked."

I would have to agree.

The wintertime is always a time of deep thought here in the woods of Vermont. Everybody is having a good time. It is pretty much all about hanging out and having a joyous occasion. It doesn't really matter how good you ride. It's just all about a good time.

This is Peter Line reporting from Mount Snow, Vermont.

See you tomorrow.
