A Different Perspective

Being at the Winter X Games and not competing, I really felt like I was kind of out of the mix. Especially after watching it for the first time on TV. There was no little Peter Line pictures of me riding so it made me feel kind of washed up already. But then I saw myself doing interviews and that made me feel better.

I had a lot of fun doing the TV stuff. The courses didn't look that much fun so I didn't regret not riding at all. Slopestyle looked really fun actually, but Big Air and the pipe didn't look that good to me. It was a little too icy and cold. Standing on top of some of the contests was pretty gnarly, especially halfpipe. It was freezing cold. I have some sympathy for some of the cameramen and people up there.

There weren't many surprises to come out of this year's competition. Danny Kass came in as a hopeful in the halfpipe after qualifying at the Vans competition and he ended up taking it. I called Jussi (Oksanen) from the beginning to win the Big Air and he did. After practice, I had no idea who would win. I was thinking maybe Todd Richards with his cab 900s. I thought Kevin Jones would do better but he looked pretty tired.

The whole TV experience went pretty well. They gave me a lot of respect. I was their man. It just shows the talent are taken care of better than the riders. It has always been a pretty bad experience for me in the past as an athlete. They are getting better though. Once you have that TV Production credential they pretty much bow down and kiss your feet.

I saw myself on TV one night. It was pretty funny. They didn't have all the interviews I did, but they showed some of them and I liked it. It is really hard to see yourself on TV talking. Especially me with my nasally voice. Todd Richards told me my interviews were weird but everybody has told me I was OK.

Peter Line goes one-on-one with Shannon Dunn.

The first night I went to the Snow Barn (a local bar) and ended up going there a couple times throughout the week. I felt kind of sick all week. RUN DMC and DJ SWAMP played the other night. I really wanted to go to that but I was too out of it. I couldn't even think straight and my nose was gushing snot. I'm feeling much better now.

I'm heading back to Cali for a bit and then off to Whistler for a Four Square photo shoot. After that, possibly Toyota Big Air and then we go to Japan for a tour. I get my cast off on Tuesday (Feb. 6), and hopefully I can ride soon after that. We'll see. I took some Slopestyle runs this week. I was a little sketchy. I hear you can't break it once it's in a cast but I didn't really want to break it off any higher than the cast. I was just doing straight airs. I mellowed out the last couple days and just watched people.

In closing, I'm not quite washed up enough to become a TV personality but I had my first step towards it I guess. If they like me, I could see myself doing more TV stuff in the future. At the beginning I was nervous. It is easy doing the interviews, it's harder to talk about the courses and things like that. I know all those guys so it comes across better.
