X Games Chat: Travis Pastrana
Travis is at the X Games recovering from a blown knee and commenting on the Moto X action. We're lucky to have him take time out of his busy schedule to chat with you. Travis has had a crazy season. Between learning the backflip with variations, winning Gravity Games Freestyle and being on-air at X Games VIII, he definitely is one of the busiest Moto X riders out there. Check out the transcript of the chat below to see what Travis had to say. Please check our upcoming chat schedule for your chance to chat with other X Games VIII athletes. Moderator: Travis is on his way and will be with us shortly, patience young jedi. Travis Pastrana: Hey everyone, thanks for logging on... I'm here so lets get started. Liv, New Orleans: Hey Trav! You're awesome!!!!I am a BIG fan of yours, and I would absolutely love to ride MotoX but my parents won't let me,they think it is dangerous and is only for boys. How could I convince them it's really what I want? And also, are you coming back to New Orleans anytime? Travis Pastrana: Liv, take your parents to a race and show them it's a great family environment. Lots of girls race and even here at the X Games there were some girls doing freestyle. I'll be in New Orleans for the supercross next year. YZ125FL: Hey Travis, I was wondering how hard it is to rehabilitate your knee and when you expect to be back on the track? Travis Pastrana: I actually blew out my good knee this time, my other knee has had 6 operations already. Next week I will be getting surgery and it should be about 3 months of rehab before I start racing again. Michael: Is it fun riding moto x bikes? Travis Pastrana: What do you think? It's the best feeling on earth. Julie, Chicago: Travis, How is your buddy Kenny Bartram doing today? How is the knee? Will he be back for Big Air? Travis Pastrana: I felt really bad because Kenny wasn't going to do a flip and it took me two days to convince him that he could pull it. Now he's in the hospital with a broken leg and a sprained ankle. mx_fiend: Hey Travis, did suzuki have anything to say about your latest injury (since it came from a freestyle event)? Travis Pastrana: Obviously Suzuki was dissapointed that I was injured again, but they are understanding and can't wait for next season. Tom Jacksonville, FL: Hi Travis, What's your fave freestyle trick to pull off? Travis Pastrana: The No-footer is my favorite trick, believe it or not. When you fly weightless with the bike holding you down rather than holding you up is a great feeling. And the backflip is a close second. Ashley, Galloway: What was it like to watch Metzger win a competition that you've pretty much made your own? Travis Pastrana: I think it's great to see Metz doing so well. He was one of my heros when I was growing up and the backflip over the second gap was just insane. Lisa (St. Paul): How did you secure such a big outside-the-industry sponsor like Puma? Do you have agents looking for sponsors or do you submit your resume yourself? Or did Puma approach you? Travis Pastrana: It's pretty sad that action sports athletes need agents now-a-days. I'm represented by an agency called The Familie. Ryan Fontana, CA.: Hey Travis. I was wondering. When are you going to make another video of you? I can't wait! Travis Pastrana: So far Revelation 199 is the only video that I've had a lot of say in. I just bought a $10,000 editing system and with almost every one of my friends trying backflips on motorcycles and double backs on bicycles I should be able to have a great crash section. Metz -The Real Deal: Is it true you put the pressure on Kenny to hurt himself? -Metz. Travis Pastrana: Ohhh My god! I killed Kenny! No, actually Metz I only convinced him that he could do what he knew how to do already. It's not my fault he buckled, and he's actually stoked that he didn't wimp out. You're the man. -- Travis Mike - Lafayette: Do you know anything about Kevin Windham's future in racing? Travis Pastrana: Windham is the most naturally gifted rider the world has ever seen. He's working on putting together a track close to your house and I'm sure we haven't seen the last of Kevin on the track. Jack St. Louis: Do you get recognized a lot when you go out in public or can you pretty much go about your business on a daily basis without too much hassle? Travis Pastrana: Any event or town near a race track is like a fantasy world. Fortunately our sport is small enough that I can carry on a completely normal life away from the track. M.Garcia (Catalonia): What do you know of Edgar Torronterras (ET), that every time he had to come to the US to compete he run away with an excuse? Travis Pastrana: Edgar is no wimp. He doesn't like the states but he is one of the baddest riders in Freestyle Moto today. Jess Minnetonka MN: What do u think of girls in motocross? And have u ever come up against girls that are just as good as u? Travis Pastrana: Girls are actually doing really well in racing but you don't find too many of them that put every aspect together. Most girls are super fast in the corners but don't like to jump. Yesterday at the X Games however some girl named Heather was doing huge bar hops... I can't do bar hops. Mike - Lafayette: What is your favorite place to ride other than Coop's and your house? Travis Pastrana: Obviously I spend a lot of time at my house. I have a lot of friends in Oklahoma and I love the soil there. There's a track in Reno on a mountainside next to a lake that's gotta be the all time greatest location for a Moto track. Paul (New Zealand): What do you think of the Metal Mulisha? Shat is the best trick you can do on a bmx? Travis Pastrana: I don't agree with the image the Metal Mulisha supports. But most of the guys are pretty nice when you get to know them, they're smarter than they may come off. As far as BMX... I can do a backflip no-hander, but I can't do a no-hander. Go figure. Matte (Sweden): How is the best way learning new tricks?? Travis Pastrana: Get a trampoline, take your bicycle, remove the wheels and cranks. Use some old rags on all sharp points with some duct tape... And you have yourself a freestyle learning device. Good luck. poop: poop Travis Pastrana: Looks like you need a Racer X Illustrated. Shelly, D.C.: Hey Travis! Are u single? And if so, are you looking? Travis Pastrana: Yes I'm single... Send a picture. Ha ha... Colin Mackay: Travis you are the man, I admire your courage to venture into the unknown in Moto X, your bro, Colin Travis Pastrana: Colin I have a $100 riding on you for Bicycle Stunt Park tomorrow at X. Be my hero... Juan (Mexico): Itīs true that your cousin performed a backflip in his first week of riding? Travis Pastrana: Yes, my cousin Gini Pig Greg pulled a flip his second time ever riding a bike with more than 50ccs. His hands blew off on the take-off and somehow he reached back up, grabbed the bars and landed it perfect. Greg has skills. Travis Pastrana: Sorry I didn't have an opportunity to get to all of you but I have to go cheer for my friends in Bicycle Stunt Vert here at X. Copyright ©2002 ESPN Internet Ventures.
