Spectator Information
Q: How much are tickets and where are they being sold?
A: The ESPN X Games are FREE to the public. There are no tickets or passes necessary for entrance into the venue. Entrance is based on a first come basis. Q: Where are the X Games being held? A: The primary venue for the ESPN X Games is the First Union Complex. Events will be held at the First Union Complex from August 17-22. There are also satellite venues for some of our other competitions. You can find directions to all of the events here. Street Luge will be held August 11-12 on Falls Road in Fairmount Park. Downhill BMX will be held August 11-12 at Woodward Camp near State College. Skateboard Street will be held August 11 at City Hall. Wakeboarding will be held August 13-14 on the Schuylkill River, north of Boathouse Row. For all the info you need about getting to the Games including: Parking, venue maps & directions, accommodations and facts about Philadelphia. Please visit the Philadelphia X Games site at Philadelphia X Games. In addition, you can also visit Extreme PA for info on action sports in Pennsylvania, interactive games, and much more. Q: How can I volunteer for the X Games? A: The 2001 X Games volunteer drive is closed since the desired number of volunteers has been reached. However, please feel free to check out X Games Volunteers. If the drive should re-open or if other volunteer opportunities should become available, the information will be posted on that website. Q: How can my business rent a booth at the X Games and how much does it cost? A: The only "booths" at the ESPN X Games belong to our national sponsors and partners and local affiliate partners. All of these booths are located in the Interactive Village at the First Union Complex. Q: Can I compete in the X Games? A: The ESPN X Games is the premier competition in action sports. The fields for the X Games are very limited and only the very best athletes in each sport are invited to the X Games. There are eight sports in the 2001 X Games and each one has a different qualifying process outlined by the sport organizers. Q: Can I bring my family to the X Games? A: The X Games is known as one of the most fun and exciting free events for the entire family. Along with skate and bike check there is also a stroller check. The event is non-alcoholic and the environment is family oriented with several interactive activities for children. Q: Is there parking on site or should I take public transportation? A: There is limited parking at the venue for the X Games since the competition sites are both inside the First Union Center and in the surrounding parking lots. Spectators highly are encouraged to take public transportation. There are SEPTA trains that run along the Broad Street (Orange) Line with an exit at Pattison Avenue for the Sports Complex. SEPTA buses #17 and the C Line also run near the First Union Complex. Q: Is there a list of other activities that are going on during the X Games? A: There is no formal listing of events in conjunction with the X Games. There is an X Games Host City Committee that has events listed on their website at Philadelphia X Games or check out Extreme PA. Q: Where can I find out information on hotel rates and/or packages for the X Games? A: Though there is no official X Games hotel, the Host City Committee has a listing of hotels in the area available on their website at www.philadelphiaxgames.org. The Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Greater Philadelphia Tourism and Marketing Corporation also have information on hotels and rates in Philadelphia. Q: What superstars will be at the ESPN X Games? A: All 350 athletes that will be competing in the 2001 X Games are superstars. However, skateboard icon Tony Hawk will be at the event in the role as a commentator. Bicycle stunt legend Mat Hoffman will also be at the X Games as a commentator and sport organizer. Dave Mirra will also be at the X Games competing in Bicycle Stunt. Go to our 2001 Invited Athletes page to see who else will be there.
