Summer X Games Wrap
Another Summer X Games is in the books and this one was high on excitement and stellar performances. After all of the dirt settled though, the 2001 X Games turned out to be the biggest and best ever. Here is a look back at all of the events and coverage that set the precedent for all future X Games.

Philly Style

There was much, much more to the City of Brotherly Love than just the X Games this year. We scouted out the best grub, hot spots and the hot girls, all for you. For a taste of all the X Games action and a slice of the Philly lifestyle, go directly to our Galleries Archive. Do not pass go, do not collect $200, becasue it's all here. Heck, we even threw together some cool graphics to keep your computer fresh.

Whether you are skating or riding your bike, Philly has many options. There is the world famous Love Park, which was on lock down during the Games. If you got busted there, it was time to hit up FDR for some good lines. Or you could always go covert style and hit the streets.

Not enough for you? Well we also had the Tube Film Festival, the premier of X Games Skateboarding for the PlayStation 2,and EXPN Magazine. We also sat down for an interview with Ron Semiao, the creator of the X Games. All of that and a little premier from a guy named Bam with his video called CKY3, maybe you have heard of it.

If it is more video you are looking for, you can find the biggest jumps, spills and best runs in our Video Archive We have the medal winning runs from every event. You know you can't watch Bob's final run or Carey's Hart Breaker just once, so go early and often.

When it comes down to it though, it is all about the sports. So check it out and get your fill.

Skateboarding

The Street Skating event went off for the first time, in the heart of Philadelphia at City Hall. The large crowd saw local Kerry Getz walk away with the gold. With great runs from Koston, McCrank, Senn and Ricky Oyola, among others, this may have been the event of the Games. It was Rick McCrank though who showed his great style and skills in the Best Trick competition. When the Park event rolled around though, it was Rodil de Araujo who put together the right lines and combinations to win.

The vert ramp saw plenty of action as Bob Burnquist worked his magic on the final run to win the Vert Final. If you haven't seen this run yet, make sure you check the video or broadcast to catch it, because Bob takes things to another level. In Vert Doubles finals, Tony Hawk and Andy Macdonald once again owned the ramp, taking home the hardware. But who knows what would have happened if Bob and Jen were in the mix.

Hawk also made his return to the Vert Best Trick contest, throwing out the 900 in the process. In the end though it was Matt Dove who won the comp after some extensive protest. His first X Games was his last X Games according to Dove, but should he have won the gold? You be the judge.

Moto X

Possibly the most anticipated event of the this year's Games took place inside the First Union Center. With AC/DC pumping throughout the arena, the first ever Moto X Big Air competition went off. All of the rumors throughout the week proved to be true as Carey Hart went for the Hart Breaker on his first run. Although he could not complete the flip, he set the tone for the rest of the night. In the end it was Kenny Bartram who pulled out the best combinations for the win.

Also under the lights was the Step Up competition. Once again Tommy Clowers proved that he was the master, clearing 33 feet and leaving second place to Travis Pastrana.

Travis would have his day though and when it was time for Freestyle he was second to none. Travis made use of the entire course and managed to find almost every hit on his way to an incredible run, making Mom and Dad happy.

Bicycle Stunt

Speaking of incredible runs, if you missed Dave Mirra's final run during the BMX Vert competition, well then you missed something special. Mirra came out on top, despite great runs from Jay Miron and a man they call The Condor. Watching from the sidelines with a broken ankle was last year's Vert champion Jamie Bestwick

Mirra made up for his sixth place finish in the Park event with the Vert win. The new blood began to step up at the Park event, with Bruce Crisman coming through with a great mix of tech and style that locked up first for him.

Over at the Dirt competition, it was all about going big. Stephen Murray threw it down with a double backflip and then had to watch as Ryan Nyquist came back with a 360 backflip, but it just wasn't enough to grab the gold. TJ Lavin finished third.

On the Flatland scene it was Martti Kuoppa who walked away with this second consecutive X Games gold medal.

Meanwhile, over at Camp Woodward, it was time for the X Games debut of another sport, BMX Downhill. The inagural event saw Robbie Miranda case the last berm and get knocked out in the process, allowing Brandon Meadows to take the win.

Inline

Flips and spins were served up yet again as Taig Khris showed his true form during the Inline Vert competition. He nailed down the double backflip to secure the win. Fabiola da Silva continued her winning ways, grabbing yet another X Games gold medal in Vert. On the Park course though, it was Martina Svobodova who skated away with the gold after some mistakes from da Silva. Jaren Grob took care of things on the men's side.

Wakeboarding

On the water, it was the youth movement in full effect. Wakeboarding saw 16-year-old Danny Harf and 14-year-old Dallas Friday capture the gold.

Street Luge

Even a torrential downpour could not stop Brent DeKeyser from winning the Street Luge Supermass competition. Dennis Derammelaere was again crowned the King of the Hill.

Speed Climbing

Facing the ominous climbing wall, it was Maxim Stenkovoy who conquered the competition in the Speed Climbingcompetition. On the women's side, it was Elena Repko who went home with the win.
