Philly Goes Tubin'
For those who just couldn't get enough action at the 2001 X Games in Philadelphia, they were in luck. The second annual Tube Film Festival was going down at the Prince Music Theatre on August 20 and 21 featuring a stellar lineup of short films revolving around action sports.

The first night of the festival kicked of in true movie style fashion with the arrival of the celebrities (Carey Hart and T.J. Lavin), light bulbs flashing, and lots of important looking people hanging out, drinking mixed drinks and schmoozing.

But once the lights went down on the small, intimate theatre, the crowd was treated to a stellar lineup of short films, seven to be exact, topped off by Goodtimes with Carey Hart, a portrait of the freestyle motocross champion, including the first ever motorcycle backflip in competition. Other selections included Urban 1st Base, a look at insane base-jumping in Norway, and Skilleto, a sick look at Kris Holm's ability to do anything and go just about anywhere on a unicycle.

The second night of the festival saw six films, including the The Arctic Challenge, showcasing the exclusive snowboard event in Norway hosted by Daniel Franck and Terje Haakonsen as well as Whipped, about giant wave surfing off the coast of Northern California, in which we learned a surfboard is no match for a great white shark.

At the end of the festival, filmmaker Carter Gibbs showed a special sneak preview of his new film Tom Cat, about Moto X rider Tommy Clowers who was on hand with Justin Homan, Jeff Tilton and Trevor Vines to sign autrographs.

The selections for this year's edition of the Tube Film Festival were made from over 50 hours of film and video work submitted by action sports filmmakers from around the world. If you couldn't make it, check out the winners. and the films online.
