Moto X - Freestyle Odds
Tommy Clowers 2-1
Last year he took home a sliver medal in this discipline that has the Tom Cat longing for gold. Moto railbirds are whispering he's not only been healing from his broken collarbone but working on some new tricks and looking to go very big. Dan Pastor 2-1 Freshly crowned WFA World Champion has emerged as a legitimate star and when he puts it all together he rides with the crème de la moto-x psychos. He says he has a few tricks left unseen in his bag, and he knows he'll have to pull them to win with the strength of this field. What's he holding? A certain 360-degree spin? Is it enough? Dustin Miller 3-1 The New Kid on the Dirt has the whole package - guts, skill, disregard for self-preservation - to rise up from one of the feeder tours to nab X Games gold. Mike Cinqmars says Miller put in the best run he's ever seen in freestyle motocross back at the FreeRide event in Salt Lake. Question is, jumping on what promises to be a big course, with changeable outdoor conditions and under huge X Games glare, can the little man on wheels deliver big time? Travis Pastrana 3-1 Hard to imagine he's not the favorite given he's undefeated in freestyle events, but there's just too many young faces with big talent that have pushed the whole sport to a whole new level while he's been away making history racing. He'll need a whole new bag of tricks to keep his record intact. Don't be shocked if he shocks the freestyle world, but it'll be a shock.
Don't let his age fool you - 36 - this madman has the cojones to pull the most insane tricks in freestyle and he can handle the pressure of the X Games spotlight with casual aplomb. Age has its virtues. Still, he'll have to be pushing past his own known limits to stand atop the podium. Winter X, OK. Summer X, not likely. Brian Deegan 4-1 He's a crowd favorite, and this bad boy can bring the house down in one run - if he doesn't clown around too much. But leading up to X, is he working hard to come back from the bad ankle, or reveling in his stature as the dark knight at the head of the Metal Mulisha roundtable? He has the tools, the guts and desire - but will he be focused and back in prime riding shape, and willing (and able) to put it all on the line? Mike Metzger 5-1 The Godfather of Freestyle has been out of the picture for a while so his runs have not been consistent. But there's a new baby at home and he sure looks determined these days, and there's no questioning that the raw talent and necessary moto-x insanity are there - but he'll have to open a few eyes and put it all together. Kris Rourke 8-1 Almost impossible to handicap because you never know which Kris is going to show up: the finicky one who has been inconsistent and had bike problems, or the guy they call "The Rock" who can ignore bad weather, bad winds and the screaming crowd to put together solid runs under intense pressure. You decide, just don't bet the mortgage. Trevor Vines 10-1 The factory Yamaha rider has stepped it up big time of late, but it'll take a leap of faith and imagination to pick him finishing over all the big names. He's got all the big tricks, and does them all well, but nothing to truly freak the judges' minds. A medal? Possibly. Gold? Not very likely. Justin Homan 10-1 Not a household name, but unquestionably on the rise. If he's on top of his game, he will surprise a lot of folks, but it'll be a shocker if he comes home with the gold. Clifford Adoptante 12-1 If we were laying bets on a top three finish, this guy would be cool even money. But Clifford is historically the bridesmaid, and while he's slick, smooth, and consistent, he's also a little cautious at times, something he's going to have to throw to wind if he's thinking gold. Probably not going to happen here. Jeremy Stenberg 10,000-1 If you've won the lotto and got some mad money, throw it here. You're not totally insane - everyone agrees the kid has all the bike skills. But he usually just visits our planet, doesn't really live here. Should that change - and Twitch just had a baby - he certainly could shock the world of freestyle motocross by turning in totally measured, cool, professional performance. Nah, never happen and we love him for it. Check out the odds for Big Air and Step-Up. |
