Street Luge Events
EXPN.com
Organizer: International Gravity Sports Association
History has it that Street Luge evolved from Skateboarding; lugers from Oregon to Austria claim to have pioneered the sport, yet no one is certain from where, and when, the evolution between skate and luge occurred. All the politics aside Street Luge continues to be a X Games staple and a crowd favorite. The event will return to San Francisco's Seal Rock Run Aug 11-13th, which has been dubbed by many lugers as one of the best Luge courses in existence. The riders begin high in the residential district of Alta Mar and make their way around several curves and pitches, passing the historic Cliff House restaurant, and make their way along the one of the city's most scenic drives till they reach sea level at Ocean Beach. The pitch is perfect, the curves narrow, and you can't beat the view.
Super Mass
Super Mass Street Luge begins with 30 racers each taking 2 qualifying runs for an overall ranking. The top 24 racers will qualify for the Super Mass competition. Racers fly down winding city streets, hay bails lining corners, their speeds reaching in excess of 70mph. Only 3 out of the 6 in each round will advance, this continues until the final 6 race for the podium.
Dual
A heated head to head competition. The fastest 16 racers from the qualifying rounds are placed in single elimination brackets to determine a champion. Second place finishers from the quarter finals advance to a consolidation bracket. Fast and furious racing, choosing the right line can make up crucial hundredths of seconds.
King of the Hill
This event, an X Games first, will pit all gold medalist X Games competitors from the past 5 years against each other for a one-time-only race that will decide who really is the fastest in the land. The event is run Super Mass style and the first racer who crosses the finish line will be crowned the all time X Games "King of the Hill".![]() | |||||||||||||||
