After the success of Tony Hawk's Gigantic Skatepark Tour last year, ESPN and Tony Hawk's Gigantic Skatepark Tour team up again this summer to tour Europe and the United States. The tour concept, which debuted last year, is the first of its kind for ESPN, and capilitizes on taking skateboarding to public skateparks worldwide.
Hawk and his crew of professional skateboarders and BMX riders will launch their tour at the Playstation Park in London, April 26, 2001. Traveling by bus, the tour will then head south through Bercy, outside of Paris, France, concluding in Frankfurt, Germany, May 1, 2001. As part of the tour stops, the professional athletes will perform demonstrations in both street and vert skating and riding.
The European segment of the tour will allow spectators a taste of the Hawk tour, while getting Europe ready for international events that ESPN is unveiling in July, starting with an X Games Qualifier in Barcelona. As the most recognizable name in action sports, Tony Hawk and his Tour will serve as the flagship for this expansion.
The tour will be documented by 900 Films and will feature Tony Hawk, Bucky Lasek, Steve Berra, Bam Margera, Kris Markovich, BMX riders Mat Hoffman, Rick Thorne and Mike Escamilla and will be hosted by ESPN on-camera personalities Robert Earl, Salema Masekela and Jason Ellis. Last year's tour included 12 domestic stops throughout the U.S.
EXPN.com will be on the bus to document the madness with full coverage from each stop as well as pictures and video.
