Aggressive Inline: The Rules

May. 22, 2001

Competition Format:

Preliminary Round:
Competitors are placed in heats through a random order. (Any women will also be placed in the heats with the men). Each competitor, running first through last, will complete one (1) run and will be ranked on the leader board according to his first run score. After each heat of skaters has completed their runs, there will be a 6 (six)-minute warm-up period for the next group of athletes. After all skaters have completed a first run, each competitor will then complete his second run and will receive a second run score. The two (2) scores are averaged to establish an average score which will determine the rankings first through last on the leader board. The top ten (10) leader board positions advance to the Final Round.

Final Round:
All ten (10) competitors will take two (2) runs, in reverse order of the Preliminary Round leader board. The competitors will complete their first run and are assigned a first run score. There will be 5 (five) minutes between the two (2) runs. The competitors will complete their second run, in the same order, and are assigned a second run score. The better of the two (2) scores determines the competitor's better score. The competitors are ranked on the leader board according to their better score.

Judging/Scoring:
Judges: Four (4) judges, including one (1) head judge who oversees the competition.
-Judges score each run based on four (4) criteria:
-Style, Difficulty, Consistency and Line (each worth 25 points)
-Scores range from 1-100.
-All four (4) scores are averaged to determine a composite score for each run.

Runs:
-65-second runs
-Two (2) runs in Preliminary Round, two (2) runs in Final Round.

Scoring:
Preliminary Round:
-All skaters scored on a scale of 1-100.
-Each skater's Preliminary Round scores are averaged to two (2) decimal places.

Final Round:
-Final (10) skaters scored on a scale of 1-100.
-Better score out of the final two (2) runs counts.
-Highest score determines the winner.

Resolving Ties:
Preliminary Round:
1. In the event of a tie, the skater's higher run score will be used to determine placing.
2. If two or more skaters are still tied based on the higher run score, the weaker run will determine placing.
3. If two or more skaters are still tied based on the weaker run score, the head judge will determine the order.

Final Round
1. In the event of a tie, the skater's weaker run score will be used to determine placing.
2. If two or more skaters are still tied based on the weaker run score, the head judge will determine the order.
3. If the tie is for first place, there will be a one-run skate-off and the better run will break the tie.
