Taipei, Taiwan - For the second year in a row, the Asian Xtour presented by Toyota, rolled through Chinese Taipei. Over 10,000 spectators flooded the stands and sidelines by the park course on the Parking lot besides the Mitsukoshi department store in Taipei this past weekend, August 4th & 5th.

Extreme Dragon Dance

Action on the park course included a bright red "Chinese Dragon" during the opening ceremony. This type of thing may be common during Chinese New Year, but this Dragon was operated by inline skaters, up and over ramps it went, tail whipping in the back! More tail whips followed the opening ceremony with bicycle stunt Junior X athlete, Huang Shih-Yun making history with her Gold medal performance! For the first time in Xtour history a girl took home the Gold in Junior X bicycle stunt park competition. Huang Shih-Yun did not stop there; she also walked away with a bronze in flatland competition. She earned a qualifying spot to the 2002 ESPN Junior X Games, which will be held in Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with the 2002 Asian X Games Qualifier presented by Toyota, January 28-Feburary 3rd, 2002! We're looking forward to seeing her on the podium there as well!

Over 200 athletes participated in aggressive inline skating, skateboarding, bicycle stunt park and flatland competitions this weekend. Athletes both male and female from the youngest being a 3year and 8-month-old athlete, who participated in inline and skateboard competitions to athletes in their late 20s! Taipei's sunny weekend saw many big smiles on the faces of action sports athletes from across the country. Maybe it was the Dragon, but we were happy to see many new faces qualify for the upcoming X Games Qualifier, in Kuala Lumpur next January!
