Concept:
The annual first-of-its-kind competition features two distinct venues hosting events in summer and winter action sports simultaneously, and features the world's top athletes grouped into six regions to compete for the X Games Global Championship title.

Venues:

X Games events: The Alamodome, San Antonio, Texas
Winter X Games events: Whistler Blackcomb Mountain Resort, Canada

Dates:
May 16-18, 2003

Six teams defining world regions:
  • Asia
  • Australia
  • Canada
  • Europe
  • South America
  • USA

    Format & Scoring:
    Six world region teams made up of two athletes per world region competing in 11 different sport disciplines from six sport categories:

    X Games Sports:
  • Moto X Freestyle
  • Bike Stunt Vert and Park
  • Skateboard Vert and Park
  • Aggressive In-line Skate Vert and Park

    Winter X Games Sports:
  • Snowboard SuperPipe (Men & Women)
  • Ski SuperPipe (Men & Women*)

    Each athlete receives points for their team based on the final leader board position within their sport discipline.

    Points breakdown:
    1st place = 12 points
    2nd place = 11 points
    3rd place = 10 points
    4th place = 9 points
    5th place = 8 points
    6th place = 7 points
    7th place = 4 points
    8th place = 5 points
    9th place = 4 points
    10th place = 3 points
    11th place = 2 points
    12th place = 1 point

    Results from both venues will be combined for an overall team score. The team with the highest cumulative point total will be crowned X Games Global Champion. Individual performances will also be recognized.

    Telecast:
    11 hours of original programming from May 17-21, 2003 on ESPN, ESPN2, and ABC's Wide World of Sports. ESPN International will distribute coverage of the event worldwide.

    *Women's Ski SuperPipe will have one athlete per world region.
