08.02.01
Press Release

ESPN and the Tube Action Sports Film Festival have announced the final line-up for the worlds premiere annual action sports film/video festival. This year’s event will be held at the Prince Music Theater in Philadelphia on August 20th and 21st in conjunction with the 2001 X Games. The Tube Film Festival is being presented by ESPN and EXPN.com — the sports network’s web site dedicated to action sports and lifestyle.

The selections for this year’s edition of the Tube Film Festival were made from over 50 hours of film and video work submitted by action sports filmmakers from around the world. The program also reflects the results of an online voting process on the Tube website at EXPN.com. The settings extend from sea to snow, and from the sky to the dirt. The range of sports includes surf, skate, snowboard, bike stunt, freestyle MotoCross, rock climbing, and BASE-jumping. Freestyle MotoCross is front and center in 2 of the festival’s most eagerly anticipated films. On Tuesday, August 21, Goodtimes With Carey Hart highlights the life of the dirt bike legend, from his first motorcycle at the age of 4, a life threatening accident at 14, his MotoCross evolution to freestyle, and the training and planning that led to the first ever back flip in competition. Also featured in the film are MotoCross stars Mike Cinqmars, Ronnie Faisst, Seth Enslow, Travis Pastrana, Jeremy McGrath, Mike Jones, Fuzzy Hall, and TJ Lavin. Goodtimes With Carey Hart was made by Jonathan Sudbury, Mark Guyot, Tony Torino of Jonny Vegas Productions (www.hartattack.tv). On Monday, August 20, Freeride Revolution, by Paul Taublieb / Alan Gibby and LXD, Inc./Dynocomm Sports, captures the freestyle spirit through coverage of 3 seasons of the FreeRide MotoCross Championships. It also goes behind the scenes where the riders reveal the secrets to their death defying tricks (www.freeridemotox.com).

The rest of the line-up on Monday, August 20, spans the globe to capture the excitement, spirituality, and even the poetry of action sports. Sean White's Beyond Gravity takes us on rocks, cliffs and ice as it explores the diversity of the climbing lifestyle. Whipped, by Curt Myers and Eric Nelson, jumps into the giant wave surfing season at Mavericks on the California coast with coverage of a shark attack and a tribute to fallen surfer Jay Moriarty. The Arctic Challenge brings us to the beautiful Norwegian islands of Lofoten where 24 of the world's top freestyle snowboard riders gather for a unique super-pipe and monster quarter-pipe contest created by renowed boarders Terje Haakosen and Daniel Franck. Camanchaca is windsurfer Thomas Miklautsch and photographer Richard Pichler's mystical journey in the most southern regions of South America: from lagoons high in the Andes to the Beagle Channel at the edge of a glacier. Mike Shaw and the Enough Said crew get inside the mind and spirit of surfer Mike Stewart to elucidate the joy and passion of action sports. Finally, the award winning filmmakers from "dog on a bike films" will screen selections from their latest film Dig 25 (www.dig25.com) a compilation of 25 incredible short films starring the heroes of bike stunt, including T.J Lavin, Tim "Fuzzy" Hall, Ryan Nyquist, and Cory "Nasty" Nastazio.

Tuesday, August 21 will feature Philadelphia’s own Big Tea Party (Elizabeth Fiend, Gretjen Clausing and Valerie Keller) and their film SK8 B-Lo I-95 about skaters in Philly building their own skate park. Hang on and hold your breath as the insane Norwegians from First Base leap from tall buildings and other structures in URBAN FIRST BASE. Helliventures from Germany brings us SACRED WAVE, a portrait of champion windsurfer Robby Seeger and his conquest of the big waves at Jaws in Maui. Chad Campbell and Anders Carlson showcase over a dozen of the world’s great surfers, including Kelly Slater, Rob Machado, Shane Dorian, Ben Brough, Conan Hays, Mikala Jones, Greg Browning and more in The 5th Symphony Document along with a killer music score. The exploits of extreme unicyclist Kris Holm have to be seen to be believed as he conquers the sheer cliffs and dense forest of British Columbia in SKILLETTO.

A jury consisting of athletes, filmmakers and local media personalities will present awards for Best Film and Best Highlight Film. The audience will vote for their favorite film to receive the ComChoice Audience Award (www.comchoice.com).
