Profiles for Skier of the Year
Sarah Burke
Sarah Burke's accomplishments on snow have catapulted her into the role of skiing's premier female jibber of this era.
Tricks like Misty 720s and 1080s off huge kickers, and 540s and flares in the halfpipe are the main reason Sarah is on the podium after virtually every competition she enters. Her first place Halfpipe finish and second place finish in Slopestyle in the 2001 U.S. Freeskiing Open are evidence of how Sarah reigns as new school skiing's queen. She is the 2001 winner of the ESPN Action Sports & Music Awards Female Skier of the Year.
Sarah continues to innovate with jib tricks that were featured in some major films last season. In Propaganda, she showcased her skills by sliding huge rainbow rails, spinning a huge 540 in the pipe and throwing back-flips with ease.

Aleisha Cline had the most competitive season of her career in 2001. She was the Winter X Games 2001 Gold Medallist in Skier X, Skier Cross World Champion, first place on the World Tour of Freeskiing, and won the first day of the Red Bull Snowthrill in Alaska before going on to place second. Cline is a talented multi-sport athlete and in 1993 set the world speed skiing record at 135 miles per hour (it has since been broken). She also finished the 2001 summer in an impressive 12th place in the NORBA National Championship Series for professional downhill mountain biking.
When the start gate drops, it's as if a switch is flipped and the normally low-key Cline becomes a different person. Take her win on day one of the two-day Red Bull Snowthrill of Alaska. "You don't get an inspection run. If I wasn't competing, I would have been much more conservative. But since it was a competition, I had to go for it." It was Cline's first time heli-skiing and her first time skiing in Alaska.
