Sal's Predictions
Note: Want to attend the Awards Show this Saturday? There are still tickets available. Don't miss out on all the action. Get your tickets now!
It is that time of year again. Finally. The most celebrated and anticipated awards show of the year, period. Forget those fixed, boring propaganda awards shows the Music, and Film and Television industry have stuffed down your throat and get with the real. The Action Sports and Music Awards are here to let you out of the box and allow you to experience what youth culture in America is all about – diversity.
Ten years ago if you were a skater, you skated. That’s it. Snowboarding was not that cool yet, especially to skaters. And surfers, well they were to busy reeling from the blow of "Point Break" to give a care about skating or snowboarding. Music? Well, if you were punk, you were punk, and if you were hip-hop then you were hip-hop. It was plain and simple. At least at the surface. Why? No one really knows. My theory - the powers that be, a.k.a THE MAN, likes it that way. If they can keep you in a box and get you to think that you can hang with only one set, like one kind of music, be one sort of person it’s easier to keep track of you. Easier to sell you a pre-fabricated image of yourself. It’s like you’re a damn track home or something.
Whether the mainstream likes it or gets it, the Action Sports and Music Awards will blow the box to bits. Hip-Hop, Punk Rock, Film, and Action Sports together to prove that they are more the same than they are different. The who’s who of each will be on hand to celebrate the whole. Jay-Z with a band that includes a dude from Korn, Limp’z drummer and the guitarist from Static-X. Are you kidding me? Where else you gonna see that? Hmm. It’s only right that the Red Hot Chili Peppers, a band that have done more to bring rap and rock together than they are credited for, get in the mix too. Wait, the
X-Ecutioners and Unwritten Law too? Damn, is that legal? Tell me what other award show has had that lineup along with Tony Hawk, Jack Osbourne, Kelly Slater, and Carmen Electra in the same room.
One of last year's performers at TEASMA, De La Soul were the first people to make sure they were invited to the awards. Not to perform, but to sit in the audience and watch. I trust those dudes, so take their hint and make sure not to miss TEASMA, your one shot to get truly knocked out the box. Oh and especially don’t miss the Red Carpet show, yours truly alongside my homies Jason Ellis, Rick Thorne and special guest Jack Osbourne from "The Osbournes" greeting and harrrasing the long list of celebrities as they arrive. You will get to see with your own eyes who in action sports has real style. No doubt everyone will go all out in his/her direction to show off their style off the hill, kickers, ramps and out of the water. Of course motivated by the caliber of talent that will be all up in TEASMA.
Enjoy the show and my expert predictions, see ya on the carpet –
Skater of the Year
Rowley is due, Burnquist the crowd favorite, Koston is Koston. Therefore Mark Appleyard will stun all with a rookie nomination win. BMX Rider of the Year Stephen Murray should win for being such a bad-ass, but Mirra is still the best rider in the world love him or hate him. He will win Moto Rider of the Year Tough field. I am rooting for the underdogs, Adoptante and Deegan. If either win, the people win. Deegan by a Mulisha mullet. Ricky who? Snow Shred Dude Easy answer, Danny Kass.Well on his way to Muska status in Snowboarding, won X-Games, got a medal at the Olympics, and he gets the chicks. Gave a reason to watch for more than just a run at the pipe shred’s all year. JP Walker has the best video part of the year if not the last five, don’t count him out. If Danny wins look for a posse that resembles the Source Awards. Security!!!!!!!! Snow Shred Lady Tara Dakides will be on crutches at TEASMA. Hope she knows how to walk up stages on those things. Two Footed Snow Shred Dude (skier male) Tanner Hall because he is the closest thing to a snowboarder on skis, and he wins a lot. Two Footed Snow Shred Girl (skier female) Aleisha Cline because I said so. Surf Bro of the Year Andy and Bruce Irons are better at surfing than is human, both will win world championships one day. One day after Mick Fanning, your Surf Bro of the year. Surf Girl of the Year Megan Abubo because she rips and is Hawaiian, if she loses someone may get pounded cuz’... Feat of the Year Jim Rippey’s backflip on the snowmobile is ill. So ill. He’s a pro snowboarder, snowmobiling is his hobby, a way to bet to the next jump, that should be it. He flipped it. No pun intended. Then though you have Bob Burnquist’s switch loop at Tampa which is so unthinkable I get nauseous. Too close to call I think but for the sake of arguing I’ll take Rippey for the win. Best Dressed Male Selema “Sal” Masekela, of course. Best Dressed Female Any actresses that show up from any of the W.B. network teen dramas.
