We caught up with Metallica, winners of the Action Sports and Music Artist Contribution Award, backstage at the awards. Check out what the boys had to say and find out which Olympic gold medal winner is thinking about joining the band (wink, wink).

Metallica backstage with new bassist, Jonny Moseley?

What do you think of the Action Sports and Music Awards?

Kirk Hammett: I love the looseness of it. It was very good - it was very not snotty, which is what you get at a lot of music awards shows. Yeah, you get a lot of arrogance.

James Hetfield: Especially when you have those dorks from Metallica who went up early and "yeah, we won an award!"

How do you feel about taking athletes to the next level with your music?

Hammett: Dude, those athletes take us to the next level!

Hetfield: Okay, dude!

Lars Ulrich: It's really awesome. All these great people came up and told us how much our music has meant to them. It's really awesome.

Do you guys ski, snowboard, skate? Ever involved with that?

Ulrich: I ski.

Hammett: Surf!

Hetfield: Snowboard, skated until I broke everything and stopped. And, um, went on to safer things, like motorcycles and guns.

Hammett: Hey, don't forget the javelin catching.

So, when's your first gig with Metallica, Jonny (Moseley)?

Hammett: We're playing tonight at the Enormo Dome, down at the, uh ...

Ulrich: The first Metallica gig with Jonny is at the Olympic ceremony when they strip him of his metal for hanging out with us.

Jonny Moseley: The night before my event. Feb. 11, 2002, will be our first gig.

Jonny, what do you think about all this paparazzi going towards skiing, skating surfing?

Moseley: Oh, all the cameras - yeah! I appreciate it. You know, you go so long without being recognized, so I try to suck it up and take everything I can, but I have to say that I can understand how you can get sick of it.

Hammett: He's just here for the chicks man.

Moseley: I am, it definitely helps with the girls.

Hetfield: Where are they?

Moseley: I don't know

Hetfield: They're all with the snowboarders.

Walking down that green carpet, you ever do anything like that before?

Moseley: Um, yeah I've done some other ones ...

Hammett: I cleaned a brown carpet once.

Hetfield: In the back of a bus!

Hammett: Sorry, sorry, Jonny.

Ulrich: Let Jonny speak.

Moseley: I can't - I'm all speaked out.

Hetfield: You're in for sure, man!

Ulrich: Plus, plus, plus ... me and him live in the same town.

Moseley: We're neighbors, actually.

Ulrich: Every time I go down to the deli in my town, I see his picture. I'm like, "Where the [expletive] is my picture in the deli?"

Hetfield: The Moseley sandwich! You need order the Moseley sandwich! What's on it? What would be on your sandwich?

Moseley: Uh, if I had a sandwich, it would be ...

Hammett: That sounds like a song in itself. "If I had a sandwich ..."

Moseley: You see, I'm actually the writer.

Hammett: You're doing good man, keep coming.

Moseley: I'm trying, I'm trying.

Ulrich: Dude, it's all about just quick sound bites. They'll edit all this to shreds anyway. It will just be all about, like, what's on your sandwich.

Moseley: What's on my sandwich? Hmmm ... beer ... Corona!

Hetfield: Corona and snow.

Moseley: Yeah, cheap.

Right on, Metallica featuring Jonny Moseley!

Ulrich: How awesome is this? Seriously, that was great.

Hammett: I've got to take a piss guys. Hurry up!

Moseley: I gots ta pee.

Hetfield: I just did!

What's the best part of the show for you guys?

Ulrich: Best part of the show ... the end credits.

The end credits, huh?

Hammett: No, the best part of the show is the Deftones, um, gave me this cigarette here.

Hey, this is TV. We can't air that!

Ulrich: It's a special, extreme cigarette.

Hammett: Special, extreme cigarette!

Hetfield: Yeah!

Moseley: It's like, I know better.

Ulrich: This is going horribly wrong.

Moseley: Now, if I could get that close to me, then I could get the Olympic committee on me in 20 minutes.

Hammett: Dude, dude, we have big lawyers, okay? They'll take care of your ass. Don't talk like that.
