I know. I know what you're thinking. Another awards show; just what we need. But, hold on a second. Before you make any rash judgment, turn your nose up and push this one aside, let me tell you, this awards show is perched atop the cornice, ready to drop in and go big. I'm not talking about the Academy Awards here; we promise not to take ourselves that seriously. But in terms of the sports we are honoring and the world-class athletic talent that has made something like this possible, we are definitely talking something HUGE.

The ESPN Action Sports and Music Awards will be the first ever awards show to bring together the most recognizable action sports athletes and cutting edge musical artists in the unique forum of an awards show. ESPN will unite athletes, sport legends, musicians and Hollywood celebrities to present the most explosive evening in the history of action sports. Throughout the evening, awards will be presented to those who have shaped and continue to change the sports of the new millennium; and, in a unique twist, awards will also be presented to the musical artists that have accompanied these athletes every step of the way.

Most of these sports have, until recently, been considered alternative or underground in nature. As these sports have moved away from the alternative, you can't seem to watch television without seeing a snowboarder explode out a mammoth pipe, a skier attacking a vertical mountain face or a freestyle motocross rider launching over a 75-foot gap. You can't flip through the pages of a magazine without seeing a BMX rider tailwhipping over a spine ramp, a skateboarder grinding down a handrail or a surfer, carving up the face of a glassy, peeling, perfect wave. There are television programs, contests, films, videos, websites and magazines dedicated solely to the athletes, the history, and the progression into the future of each of these sports. The ESPN Action Sports & Music Awards is first and foremost a celebration of these athletes, their incredible talent and achievements and the coming of a new age of sports. It is time for them to be honored. Not only in front of their peers, but also in front of the world.
