Mammoth Mountain to donate to Surfrider Foundation.
02.23.01SAN CLEMENTE, CA - This Sunday, February 25, Mammoth and June Mountain Ski Areas will donate one dollar for every lift ticket purchased to the Surfrider Foundation's Snowrider Project. Launched in 1997, the Snowrider Project is a component of Surfrider's Respect the Beach education program. The purpose of the Snowrider program is to educate "snow-riders" about the ecological connection between snow up in the mountains and the rivers, streams and ocean waves below, which is known as the hydrologic cycle. Mammoth is making this donation to the Snowrider Project as part of the celebration surrounding the kick-off of National Ski Areas Association's (NSAA) Sustainable Slopes Environmental Charter. The day before the promotion, Saturday, February 24, Ski Area and Surfrider personnel will be available at educational kiosks at Main Lodge, Canyon Lodge and The Chalet at June Mountain to hand out information about the Surfrider Foundation and the Respect the Beach program. Visitors to the kiosks will receive free gifts made from recycled plastic (while supplies last). There will also be information available about the Environmental Charter and environmental programs currently underway or planned for future implementation at Mammoth and June Mountain Ski Areas. The Surfrider Foundation is a nonprofit environmental organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world's oceans, waves and beaches, for all people, through conservation, activism, research and education (C.A.R.E.). Surfrider Foundation currently has 50 grassroots chapters and over 27,000 members in the U.S. |
