World Snowboarding Championship to be held at Vail


Sims Snowboards is proud to announce The World Snowboarding Championship, a music festival culminating with four days of world-class competition, will take place in Vail, Colorado February 20-24, 2002. The four-day invitational will feature the highest level of competition in Slopestyle, Big Air, Jib Jam and Superpipe with a prize purse of over $250,000 as well as performances by marquee bands.

Vail captures the best in snowboarding for every riding preference. As North America's largest single-mountain ski and snowboard resort, Vail offers three distinct experiences throughout the resort's 5,289 acres. The riding experience at Vail is highlighted by the Golden Peak Terrain Park featuring a Superpipe, jib park and a variety of tabletop, hip and kicker jumps giving riders of all levels a continuous adrenaline rush.

"Historically, Vail has hosted a number of world-class alpine events including 23 world cups and two world championships," said Bill Jensen, Vail chief operating officer. "The World Snowboarding Championship only adds to Vail's reputation as a renowned mountain and venue for hosting elite athletic competitions. We have a proven track record for hosting major events and by hosting The World Snowboarding Championship we're broadening our stature into the realm of snowboarding as a competitive, world-class venue."

The World Snowboarding Championship is unlike any other snowboarding event. Top competitors from all sanctioning bodies are invited. In addition, a "Style Council" made up of the leading opinion makers in the sport as well as some of the best riders, will add qualified world-class athletes. Many of the world's best snowboarders who are absent at other contests will be attending which will make for an exciting weekend of competitions.

"The support we received from Canada the past two years has been tremendous," commented Travis Wood, Sims Snowboards vice president of marketing, "But we could not pass up the opportunity to return The World Snowboarding Championship to the United States."
