The Mountain Dew Pro Nationals at Breckenridge Ski Resort, kicking off the 2001-2002 Vans Triple Crown of
Snowboarding series, has been postponed and will tentatively be
re-scheduled for December 18-22 due to late arriving snowfall. The first
major competition of the year, the Mountain Dew Pro Nationals features the
world's best snowboarders competing in the Half Pipe, Slope Style and Big
Air events for a piece of a prize purse of more than $125,000. Contingent
upon the competition taking place December 18-22, the Mountain Dew Pro
Nationals is tentatively scheduled to be broadcast on NBC Sports on Sunday,
January 13 at 3:00 p.m. EST as part of NBC Sports' ongoing coverage of the
Vans Triple Crown Series.
This year's Mountain Dew Pro Nationals will again feature the top
snowboarders in the world as such top names as Todd Richards, Daniel
Franck, Shaun White, JJ Thomas, Tara Dakides, Leslie Olsen and Tricia
Byrnes are expected to compete. Competitions will take place in the
acclaimed Freeway Terrain Park at Peak 8, which boasts one of the
top-ranked half pipes and the fourth-ranked terrain park and third-ranked
overall resort in North America as rated by the readers of Transworld's
Snowboarding Travel Guide.
"With more than two feet dumping over Thanksgiving weekend, conditions are
now perfect for building the half pipe and Freeway Terrain Park," said Jay
E. Wilson, Vice President of Global Marketing for Vans. "We really wanted
to kick off the Vans Triple Crown of Snowboarding with the Mountain Dew Pro
Nationals at Breckenridge Ski Resort as it's truly one of the very best
locations for the sport."
