Chamjam Sports and Music Festival.
CHAMJAM 2001
Chamonix Mt. Blanc 5-9th March 2001
Main Sponsors: Vans, Volkl et MTV Snowball
The Chamjam 2001 has grown from its renegade roots
over the last five years to become one of Europe's
most respected and innovative winter freesports
competitions. Professional and amateur skiers and
snowboarders will gather on the legendary Grands
Montets in the first week of March to compete in
big air, half-pipe and boarder cross events. This
year's event extends to four days of high action
extreme sport, at the top level of competition. Alongside
the Freesports Festival the Chamjam Music Festival
will showcase live acts from across Europe including
respected artists and emerging talent. The Chamjam
2001 will benefit from global television coverage
ranging from competition sports reportage to a
lifestyle and sport fusion, including music and
fashion. In 2001 the festival splits into two halves
with the sports event being the Chamjam Freesports
Festival and the music event, the Chamjam Music
Festival.
The Chamjam has its origins in the BURGS Boss des
Bosses, which began 11 years ago as a renegade mogul
skiing competition between the ski resorts of Chamonix
Mt. Blanc and
Val D'Isère. The Chamjam 2000 was the biggest and best
yet. Several thousand spectators watched the true
Chamjam ethos as a 18 year old local kid beat
the assembled professional skiers to win the big air
title and an invitation to the ESPN Winter X-Games. In the
snowboard disciplines local hero, and Rossignol
professional, Tony Roos took the title. The Boss des
Bosses was taken home by the team from Zermatt from
under the noses of Chamonix. The Freesports Festival
included teams from 3 other resorts (Verbier, Zermatt
and Meribel), with individual competitors coming from
across Europe & the Globe. As always the event
attracted large crowds from the French, Swiss and
Italian Alps. Music was provided by Glyda, starring
Jessie Wood, the son of Ronnie Wood, from the Rolling
Stones. Chamjam regulars Pressure Drop returned for
the third year to entertain crowds on and off the
mountain.
