Burton Releases "The Fish"

Surf the snow. Picture it. You are on the mountain making smooth, arching turns in soft, fresh, powder, catching face-shot after face-shot. You’re floating on air, you’re riding a…FISH? Burton Snowboards’ newest innovation, the FISH 56 snowboard, is designed to achieve a heavenly feel and deliver the ultimate powder ride. With the help of Burton pro rider Terje Haakonsen, widely considered to be the best snowboarder in the world, and John Gerndt (JG) a member of Burton’s talented development team, the new FISH 56 is a welcome late edition to Burton’s 2002 board lineup and is sure to feed hungry powder hounds this season.

For inspiration, Burton’s design team and Terje looked back to the early 80’s when jeans had holes, mullets were chic, and snowboards were strictly designed for back yard powder snow. Through its rider driven development process, Burton developed the FISH 56, a board designed to be ridden three to six centimeters shorter, and by riders of all shapes and sizes looking for the ultimate powder machine. Although the FISH excels in powder, it can also swim with the best of them on groomers, giving riders the ultimate sensation of holding a carved turn.

“The FISH is a board that won’t give the rider rear leg burn when riding pow. It’s shorter 156 length makes it super maneuverable, and with its tapered nose and short tail, it rides like a surf board, and floats in powder like a longer board would.” said Terje, three-time U.S. Open Champion, and 2001 U.S. Open Quarter Pipe Champion. “It’s the board I ride the most because when I’m riding this board it must mean I am riding good snow.”

The FISH 56 is engineered utilizing a wide taper angle, long nose length, and short tail length, all helping to create better float and maneuverability which ultimately sizes-up this FISH as one that riders will definitely not want to throw back.

A late addition to Burton’s 2002 Board line, look for the FISH 56 in shops late November.
