The 7th Annual Boarding For Breast Cancer
(B4BC) Snowboard + Music Festival, taking place on Sunday, April 14, 2002 at
Sierra-At-Tahoe Resort in Lake Tahoe, California, will once again host the
celebrated B4BC Breast Mold Art Exhibit and Auction.
The B4BC Breast Mold Art Exhibit and Auction is a unique element of the B4BC
Snowboard + Music Festival that brings together art, action sports and the
fight against breast cancer. This year’s breast mold exhibit will include
breast molds by renowned pro athletes such as U.S. Olympic Gold Medallist
Kelly Clark, event co-founders Tina Basich and Shannon Dunn, Michele
Taggart, Megan Pischke, Tara Dakides, Tina Dixon, Barrett Christy,
celebrities Jerri Manthey and Lindsey Richter from the hit show ‘Survivor’,
as well as several breast cancer survivors. The molds are made prior to the
event and are hand painted by prominent artists including Shepard Fairey of
the famed ‘Obey’ campaign, Jon Jensen, Jill McHugh, and Tina Basich who
donate their time and artistry to the cause. The breast molds will then be
on display in the B4BC booth and auctioned at this year’s Snowboard + Music
Festival with proceeds going to breast cancer education and awareness.
The B4BC Breast Mold Art Exhibit and Auction is also a unique and artistic
way for people to get involved themselves. Throughout the event, the B4BC
booth will offer breast mold making lessons and art classes. For $25,
festival-goers can paint an unfinished breast mold and take it home as a
memory of the event. The breast mold campaign is designed to promote
self-esteem, and encourages both men and women to live a healthy lifestyle
and be participatory in the fight against breast cancer. This campaign has
attracted the attention of the art community, celebrities, professional
action sports athletes and musicians.
“The B4BC Foundation has found a creative means to convince young women to
take breast cancer seriously by bringing top athletes and artists together,”
says artist and snowboarder Jill McHugh. “As an involved artist, the breast
molding process lets me express my own talents while utilizing the exposure
that all these top women athletes have to offer. They’ve offered their
bodies as molds to represent their strength and hopefully that confidence
will effect others in a positive way...and maybe, hopefully, it will just
trigger the thought to take care of and check yourself regularly."
In addition to the Snowboard + Music Festival, B4BC also hosts breast mold
art exhibitions and auctions at B4BC Board-A-Thons, the Vans Warped Tour,
the Rob Machado Surf Classic and Beach Fair, the Winter X-Games, the ESPN
Action Sports & Music Awards, the ASR and SIA Retailer Shows, and on various
online auctions held throughout the year.
Boarding for Breast Cancer is a non-profit, youth-focused organization
devoted to education, awareness and fundraising for breast cancer. B4BC’s
mission is to raise breast cancer awareness and educate today’s youth about
the importance of early cancer detection through good breast health
practices, and to raise funds for educational and awareness programs. B4BC
does this through sports, music, art and events including: The Annual B4BC
Snowboard + Music Festival, B4BC’s Board-A-Thon Program, The B4BC Outreach
Program, The B4BC Membership Drive and B4BC fund contributions. Since its
inception in 1994, B4BC has raised over $1 million through its events and
educational programs.
B4BC’s Annual Snowboard + Music Festival combines live music from bands such
as this year’s line-up: Crazy Town, New Found Glory, Dan “The Automator”,
Sense Field, Red West, and Jackpot, along with pro snowboard exhibitions by
the world’s top snowboarders. The festival atmosphere of educational tents
and displays provides an interactive montage of breast cancer awareness
programs, creating a fun-filled and informative event. Tickets can be
