Thugs, strippers and Marines are the primary inhabitants of downtown Oceanside. Well that's not entirely true, but O-side is one of the rougher towns in San Diego's North County. This very same event site was also host to skateboard contests in the 70's and 80's till a riot pretty much ended all the fun. But maybe it's the water because now people are mellower and the good times are back in town and once again Oceanside is a great place for a contest, really. The entire area is made up of laid back surf towns and is also home to skateboarding's most influential people - Hawk, Burnquist, and other legends live in the area. Not to mention Transworld, DC Shoes, Nixon, and Spy are a few of the local companies that help shape skateboarding daily. So it's no surprise that the world's best street rippers and vert jocks showed up to compete for top honors in the final round of the Vans Triple Crown. This event is about as big as the X Games with a huge vert ramp, a vert bowl, dirt jumps and a street course for bikes and skate were all set up within view of the pounding surf. There was some hot skate action going down and the crowd was feeling the action, so it's good times folks. Here are some highlights.

| You may think, big deal it's a backside air by Bob Burnquist, but no way it's switch buddy. |
Chris Senn won the street comp big time. He used the whole damn course, did not fall and pulled mega tricks. He got a well deserved first place. He said the street course was "good, it's fun."
1 out of 3 of the street finalists came from Brazil. What's in the water down there?
The vert guys seemed to like the ramp. In the middle was a giant channel with an extension/bridge over it with pool coping. It was a must make situation, if someone missed it, it was a 14ft drop.
Bob's fist two runs were full of bails but his third run was insane. He did most of it switch. Andy was very strong, but hey, Bob's run was switch.
Anthony Furlong was the overall vert champ for the three rounds. Austin Seaholm was the overall Triple Crown winner and got a truck.
The Street Best Trick contest was split into three parts. The riders were given 10 minutes to session a specific part of the course. Then they moved on to another section for 10 minutes, three sections total. Awards were placed for each section. The session was pretty much 15 bails and one make for each trick. It was pretty hectic and cool and Rodolfo was the most consistent.
The Soul Bowl was there. Three competitions took place on it: Women's Bowl, Young Guns Bowl and Masters Bowl. The crowd seemed to enjoy it.
