Highlight your calendars as the 1st kick-off stop of the 2002 All Girl Skate Jam tour presented by Patty Segovia, is set to take place Sunday, June 23rd at 1800 Oceanfront Walk Venice Beach,Ca. For this event , the All Girl Skate Jam (AGSJ) has teamed up with the Core Tour to bring spectators the best amateur athletes and most exciting action in core sports today. And as mentioned in ELLEgirl.com, it's all free to the public!

Sanctioned by the International Girls Skateboarding Association (IGSA), the All Girl Skate Jam is an open street skateboarding competition. The contest will run between 9a.m-1p.m and features three divisions; grom (7 & under), amateur and pro, so girls of all ages and abilities can participate. The biggest names in skateboarding, including Vanessa Torres, Cnaan Omer, Lindsi Thompson, Morgan Dewey, Jen O'Brien and Cara-Beth Burnside will be skating in a pro demo. The top amateur's just to name a few will include Lyn-Z Adams, Sasha La Rochelle, and Isabelle Caudle. In addition to all the skateboarding action, the event will include a festival-like atmosphere, complete with live music, food and sponsor booths where spectators can cruise by to check out the new goods and score on giveaways.

"As the levels in girls skateboarding has progressed since the first All Girl Skate Jam (AGSJ) in 1997, it is obvious that there will always be a need for the AGSJ," says Patty Segovia, founder of the AGSJ. "Staying true to it's motto, 'all ages, all abilities, all girls' we encourage girls and women to come out and skate and know that this time is about them and only them making sure they do not get lost in the mix. Through increased support for women's sports and help from our sponsors we have been able to grow All Girl Skate Jam into an international tour. "

The All Girl Skate Jam skate camp will begin shortly after the event June 25-29th in San Diego, Ca.

The concept of the original All Girl Skate Jam germinated in 1990 when Patty Segovia organized the first girls 'skateboarding demo in Reno, Nevada. Segovia, having skated in the contest herself, won a camera at 3rd place and ironically is now an established female action sports-fashion photographer. She was disappointed by the lack of comparable recognition and luxuries for women then enjoyed by their male counterparts. After almost seven years of planning, Segovia pooled her resources from the action sports world along with her contacts among the skateboarding's female pro ranks, and the first All Girl Skate Jam was born in 1997. Originally an annual event, the popularity of the contest and demand from female skaters around the world has caused the All Girl Skate Jam to incorporate into an international tour. In 2001, Segovia has branched out to attract female participants in surfing and snowboarding in order to develop the All Girl Board Jam tour. Part of the tour's proceeds will be donated to Cornucopia Mental Health that benefits those who suffer from mental illness and provide funding for ongoing research.
