How do I find a chat room?

To find a chat room, go to the chat home page and review the list of chat rooms as shown. Choose the room you want by clicking on it. We will be adding new rooms to keep up with the growth of locals jumping into mix.

How do I start chatting?

After choosing your room, wait for the GO Chat applet to load. Start chatting by typing your message in the box below the chat window.

How do I change rooms?

When you're inside a chat room and want to change rooms, click on 'Find a Chat', or use the pull-down menu to select another room.

How do I create a new room?

If you have suggestions for new rooms, please email us at comments@help.go.com. Include the name of the requested chat room as well as a brief description of the chat room topic.

How do I upload a picture?

To upload a picture, click on 'Edit my picture' at the bottom of the chat window. Type a URL to a picture or click on 'Browse' to locate an image. Click 'Done' to see the image you have uploaded and return to the chat room. Your picture will appear momentarily. Use the 'View images' pull-down to determine when you want to view images.

How do I select when to view images?

Click on 'View images': a pull-down on the bottom right-hand side of the chat window. Choose to view images 'Once', 'Never' or 'Always'.

How do I change my status?

To tell others when you are away from the room, click on 'My status', a pull-down on the bottom left-hand side of the chat window. Choose your status. An automatic reply will be sent to the room if you are unavailable.

How do I hold a private conversation?

To hold a private conversation with another chatter, click on the person's name in the 'Who's On' box from within a chat room. Then click the 'Private Message' button. You'll see a pop-up window where you can type a message to the user. Click 'Send' to send the message and it will show up in the chat window. You'll know that the message is a private message since it will be labeled "Private". You can chat with one user privately while continuing to chat with the whole room.

How do I ignore another chatter?

To ignore a chatter, click on the person's name from the left hand side of the chat room. Then click on 'Ignore'. You won't see any messages from this user. Users who are ignored will appear with lines through their names. To turn the 'Ignore' feature off, select a user you have previously ignored and click the ignore button again.

How do I send a private message?

To send a private message to another chatter, click on the person's name in the 'Who's On' box from within a chat room. Then click the 'Private Message' button. You'll see a pop-up window where you can type a message to the user. Click 'Send' to send the message and it will show up in the chat window. You'll know that the message is a private message since it will be labeled 'Private: ' and highlighted in green.

What is Chat 911?

'Chat 911' should be treated like a real-life 911: only to be used in extreme cases. Extreme case include, but are not limited to: if you see someone posting indecent or pornographic content, if you see what you believe to be illegal activity, or if you are being personally harassed by another EXPN member.

What can I do short of using the Chat 911 button?

The ignore button should be your first line of defense for messages that you consider to be offensive.

When do I use the Chat 911 button?

Please only use the 'Chat 911' feature for instances where the ignore button has been unsuccessful.

How does Chat 911 report problems?

When you click on the 'Chat 911' button, you'll go to a screen where you can type in the name of the offending chatter. This information will go directly to us, and we will take the appropriate actions.
