Should Skating be in the Olympics?
Skateparks in the last 5 years have been popping up in the U.S. almost as fast as record companies have been putting out freedom songs. I remember back when I used to work at the infamous Powell Skatezone in Santa Barbara back in the early 90's, when guyz like current Shorty team rider Jesse Silvey was about 3 feet tall and Chad Fernandez wasn't even old enough to drive, don't get me started!! We were 1 of about 10 parks in the whole Nation; nowadays you can find two parks per city. In fact there are more Skateparks in the U.S. than Wal Marts in California.

Ahhhhh, god's country.

Being an announcer slash reporter on the Tony Hawk Gigantic Skatepark Tour, I see some sick ass parks!! I also see some railer ones as well, like in Sacto, Vegas, and New Jersey. Recently I took a job in Utah putting the music together for Snowboarding in the upcoming 2002 Olympic Winter Games, how cool is that - Snowboarding in the Olympics? But that's another story. After I made the temporary move to Utah, people kept telling me about a Skatepark in Park City that was all cement with ledges, rail's and a fat bowl, and you know skaters love fat bowls! So I packed up the Suburban and headed out to Park City.

I arrived at the park about 2pm to meet my friend and former professional skateboarder turned Skateboard Commentator, "Double D" A.K.A Dave Duncan, this dude is a legend! I noticed when I arrived that no one was skating, then I noticed two city workers hosing down the outside of the park, I approached the duo and asked them why no one was skating. The guy told me someone had gotten hurt, and a HazMat crew was on the way to clean up the blood and the park wouldn't open until tomorrow.

... and you know skaters love fat bowls!

I was so bummed I couldn't skate that day so I headed home only to receive a phone call an hour and a half later from Double D saying that they were going to open the park in another hour after the HazMat dudes finished cleaning up the carnage. I started to break out into a cold sweat knowing that I had made plans to head back to Cali for Thanksgiving, and I wasn't able to head back to Park City. Oh well I figured I would hit it up after I got back in Dec. Did I mention when I returned it was buried in Snow. I guess I will have to wait until the spring thaw to sesh it up!

I did however make a phone call to Dave Duncan to ask his low down on the park. Dave says: "It is one of the top 10 parks in America", "It has something for everyone". Whether you are old School or New, The Park City Skatepark in Utah is a must!!!! If you don't believe me check out these Pic's I managed to snap before the HazMat Crew cleaned up the blood.

No matter what... Never skate with a knife and fork in your pocket.

After I returned to Utah and saw the snow, I started thinking about Snowboarding in the Winter Olympics and how cool its gonna be, but how about Skateboarding in the Summer Olympics? That's a good question so I decided to talk to the people of Park City and see what they thought of my Question:

Since Snowboarding is in the Winter Olympics, should Skateboarding be in the Summer Olympics?
