TUCSON, ARIZ. - In a freestyle motocross series that is stacked with competition like no other, Clifford Adoptante keeps coming out on top. The Air MX Challenge Series split the racing over Friday and Saturday nights to bring the Tucson Convention Center round two.
With Friday night's win, Adoptante took the $5,000 check, but second place finisher, Kenny Bartram came back Saturday night to steal the thunder. Bartram took the five grand and the points to tie Adoptante for the weekend.
"I'm pumped," Adoptante said Friday night. "It's hard to say, I rode well, but so did the other guys, I relaxed out there after the second round and now I got two in a row. What I'm really looking at though is the championship in the long run."
On an unfortunate note, first round runner up, Tommy Clowers broke his collarbone during Friday's step up competition. Clowers has one month to heal before the next event in Las Vegas. He may be there, stay tuned for updates.
Brian Deegan was doing a little TV work over the weekend. Deegan broke his ankle in Daytona during a demo jump and was unable to ride. The Metal Mulisha leader showed up to sign autographs and help the FOX Sports Net TV crew with rider interviews.
Motocrosser Tyler Evans made the crossover to FMX in Tucson and he may stay for good. Evans isn't known as a freestyle rider yet, he still had some surprising moves and made it into the final round Friday night. Evans said he may keep doing the Air MX events over Supercross and Motocross.
Factory Yamaha rider, Trevor Vines switched over to the Air MX series. Vines said the money and promoters reeled him into the new series. Look for him at all 11 remaining rounds.
