U.S. Open, The World's Richest Motorcycle Race, Goes On Sale Saturday

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla., (March 20, 2002) -The fourth annual U.S. Open, the world's richest motorcycle race, will take place at the prestigious MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas October 11-13, and tickets will be on sale nationally this Saturday, March 23. The national on-sale date gives fans the first opportunity to secure a seat to the world's richest motorcycle race.

Can Carmichael Win a Third Straight at MGM Grand Garden Arena?

Packed inside the confines of the MGM Grand Garden Arena will be a collection of the greatest motocross athletes from arenacross and supercross, chasing down the $300,000-plus purse over the two days of racing. Last year, in his first race for Team Honda, Ricky Carmichael became the first rider in U.S. Open history to win the event twice. This year the talent pool is deeper and the stakes are higher, making this anyone's game. Although Carmichael was on fire last year, no one can forget the come-from-behind charge that Jeremy McGrath performed as he worked his way into second place from a first-turn crash.

"The U.S. Open has become the staple in American motocross events in the fall," said Eric Peronnard, founder of the U.S. Open. "With the better race format we implemented in 2001 and the lure of Las Vegas, the U.S. Open is a truly remarkable weekend of racing and live entertainment. This year's U.S. Open will be bigger and better than ever."

Other attractions to the weekend will be the Four Stroke Race, 80cc Mini Invitational, Freestyle Motocross, 50cc Mini Challenge, and 125cc Manufacturer's Cup. On Sunday, October 13, the second-annual Amateur Arenacross world Finals will take place. Qualifying for the Amateur Arenacross World Finals has been underway during all 2001-2002 National and Regional Arenacross events.
