ESPN Moto-X Championships, Presented by THQ, to Rock the Motor City

(Detroit, February 14, 2002) - The ESPN Moto-X Championships, presented by THQ, promises to be a no-holds barred, big-air battle at Detroit's Cobo Arena at 8 p.m. Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23, as the biggest names in the sport of freestyle motocross dirt jumping take to the air to secure spots in the most prestigious event in action sports, the X Games. The event promises to bring the highest flying, death defying motocross dirt jumpers in the world to Detroit for the first half of the X Games qualifying series which will be concluded in Cleveland at the CSU Convocation Center on Friday April 5th and Saturday April 6th.

Some riders in the stellar field, like Brian Deegan (former WFA World Champion), Tommy "Tomcat" Clowers (current WFA World Champion), and Kenny "The Cowboy" Bartram already have X Games slots based on winning previous X Games medals, so they'll be competing for a share of the $30,000 purse, ESPN coverage and points for the overall 2002 WFA World Championship Title.

On the bubble for the career-making X Games are riding legends like Mike Metzger, Ronnie Faisst, Clifford Adoptante, Trevor Vines, and "Mad" Mike Jones, monstrous names in search of precious qualifying points. Adding more fuel to the competitive fire will be a host of fearless up-and-coming young riders, like Dustin Miller, and Nate Adams, who have been riding smaller feeder tours and no doubt will bust big with something to prove - along with seeking X Games points. >
