PITTSBURGH, Pa. (February 2, 2002) - After a Steelers loss, the Pittsburgh
fans still came out to check out the IFMA's debut in the Steel City. For
the first time this season, the IFMA held a single event instead of separate
events in two cities. All of the best names in freestyle motocross were in
Pittsburgh to show this city the next big thing in extreme sports. Kenny
Bartram headlined the show, putting his winning streak on the line. "Mad
Mike" Jones performed for the first time in competition in front of his
hometown. Trevor Vines, Tommy Clowers, Jake Windham and Dustin Miller were
also on hand to put on a show for Pittsburgh.
Friday night Kenny Bartram once again put together a strong run, holding off
Trevor Vines and hometown favorite, Mike Jones. "Mad Mike" pulled off the
"Indian Air" with a sidesaddle lander, but it was not enough to hold off
Bartram. Kenny Bartram keeps the winning streak alive for at least one more
night.
"This weekend is going to be really tough. I don't want to lose yet, I am
just getting use to winning. There is so much talent here this weekend,
this will be awesome to watch," said Kenny Bartram on Friday night.
Saturday night, Dustin Miller came out strong with a flawless run
challenging Kenny's unbeaten streak. There were only 5 tenths of a point
separating first from third place. Dustin Miller's final run was enough to
knock out Tommy Clowers, which set the stage for Kenny Bartram. The event
was Bartram's to win. Missing one jump, was enough to open the door for
Miller and slam it on Bartram's hopes for eight straight.
"I knew it had to end sooner or later. I guess if you are going to lose,
it is good to get beat by this competition," said Kenny Bartram after
Saturday's event.
