(August 6) - Just when things were looking up for the kid, he gets slammed to the ground once again. No, really, he did get slammed to the ground. After a convincing win in the freestyle portion of the Gravity Games, Travis Pastrana was injured during the Step-Up competition. Pastrana, who is just getting over a wrist injury suffered at round two of the AMA US Motocross Nationals, will be out for at least another four to five months with a laundry list of injuries.

Unaware of the crash, we sent a note to Pastrana Sunday night asking if he'd still be at Millville for the tenth round of the motocross series. The reply?

"Not now!" he said. "Is their a wheelchair category? I have a torn ACL and LCL - full dislocation and partial tear of the PCL as well as a bone "defect" in the tibia. I'll be off for at least 4 - 5 months."

Pastrana was almost 40 feet in the air when a bad jump on the Step-Up forced him to bail off the back. He landed on his knee wrong, tearing ligaments and tendons. Surgery was required but Travis is doing fine and is in good spirits.

Obviously this means there will be no 2002 Summer X Games for Travis Pastrana, who is not only undefeated in X Games Freestyle, but still undefeated in every freestyle contest he's ever competed. This will leave the door wide open for the rest of the field like Brian Deegan, Mike Metzger, Tommy Clowers and Kenny Bartram.

Pastrana beat out Metzger and Bartram for the Gravity gold. And, in case you were wondering, both Metz and Travis pulled backflips en route to their wins.

We'll keep you updated on Travis' condition. Look for an interview soon.
