The 199 Files: Update from MD
(June 27) Travis Pastrana got his cast off today and just as he was getting ready to run out of the doctor's office, they slapped another one on his wrist. It's removable so we don't think anyone will see much of it. And even though TP will be out for yet another month, he is focused on pulling the backflip at the X Games.
EXPN.com: So what's the news, good, bad? Give us the update.
Travis Pastrana: I got my cast off today so that's good, but they put me in a removable cast. I've been able to do all my training but I'm still fighting a little bit of illness just with blood work and stuff. That should all be good by the time I come back.
EXPN.com: What exactly do you mean, blood work?
TP: Mono, Epstein Barr, and currently, Parvo, which is only a disease that dogs get. They don't even have records of humans getting this disease. It kills dogs, but I'm doing all right.
EXPN.com: You been kissing some dogs, man?
TP: No! You can actually get it from eating dirt, which, I've done a lot of lately.
EXPN.com: Well in that case we may all have it! But what else have you been up to?
TP: I've been trying to get in one workout a day. I've been working around the house on my BMX trails and mountain bike trails. I just can't wait to come back and ride again.
EXPN.com: Are you going to play it safe and wait longer than Unadilla or will we see you there?
TP: I have to wait. I found that out today. I can practice starts but I can't take a chance at falling for one more month. I'll be in shape in a month and hopefully back for Millville.
EXPN.com: Now, that's the same weekend as the X Games. You'd have to do that first.
TP: That would be correct. We're still kind of deciding that. I'd like to do the X Games, even the Gravity Games, if I'm healthy. The wrist should be good by that point, but Suzuki obviously would not want to see me get hurt and be out longer.
EXPN.com: You went to Europe this weekend, didn't you?
TP: Italy was the first country I've been to in Europe that had food I would eat; pasta and ice cream 24-7. But I actually went over there to see a Formula One Race.
EXPN.com: Any other projects you want to tell us about?
TP: Well, I know that Davey Coombs and some others say that backflips are bad and I noticed people don't try backflips unless you're a complete moron, but I really want to do one.
EXPN.com: You're still going for one?
TP: If there's a good jump and everything is going right. That's the dumbest trick in the sport today. It's not entirely great, but it can't be hard. It's just a matter of you always crash the first time trying it so you have to do it over foam or something.
EXPN.com: So what did you think when you saw Caleb Wyatt do it?
TP: Did you see that footage?! I can't believe someone could keep crashing like that and still get up. Caleb is my hero. I've never seen anyone crash like that.
EXPN.com: Well, heal up and hopefully we'll see you soon.
TP: Thanks.
