A Few Words With Pastrana

What did you think when you first heard that Clear Channel had you on major billboards all across major malls in the Anaheim area?

Travis Pastrana: Well they told me the billboards were everywhere so I kept looking but didn't see anything, I was like man these guy's are lying. But then we were able to go check one out at the Block Mall in Orange County and it was huge, the biggest billboard, all the top Motocross riders were on it.

What went through your head when you first saw the 100ft Billboard at the biggest Mall in Orange County?

TP: It was just cool to see that the sport of Motocross has grown to such a great level, all this while doing something we love.

I know you went to see movie at that mall the day before the Anaheim 3 race, did the billboard make it hard to stay undercover?

TP: It wasn't too bad except when we were taking picture a Hispanic family recognized me and came over speaking Spanish. They were super nice so I took a photo with my camera, and put it on my website so they could show their son.

Let's talk about the autograph signing at the NO FEAR store, you had someone covered with tattoos with you, besides Carey Hart?

TP: Travis from BLINK 182 showed up to sign autographs which made the signing that much more packed. He was representing his company "Famous Stars & Straps" with BMX team rider Andre Ellison.

Was it cool having Travis from "BLINK 182" at the NO FEAR signing?

TP: It was great because he stole the show, it was the first signing I went to where people didn't care about the racers, everyone was going to the ROCK STAR. It was nice because I got to talk to the people a little more (he laughs) at least the people that wanted to talk. Travis was cool and the signing went pretty smooth.

So who came out on top with the ladies, the rock star or the MX superhero?

TP: Do you really even have to ask that, everyone know that ROCK STARS drive girls crazy.

Carey Hart, Andre Ellison, Mike Parenti, Kevin Windham, Blink 182's Travis, how was it having big names from different industries?

TP: It's good, the NO FEAR signing is one of the better signing of the year. It's right in the mall and you don't have to drive like five thousand miles to get to it like other signings. The atmosphere is super laid back with music, yet it brings in more people than any other signing I have been to.

The signing was from 7-8pm, Windham, Hart Ellison, and yourself were the only ones out of 8 athletes that stuck around until 9pm, what up with that?

TP: I always try to stay as late as I can, but on race night you have to draw the line somewhere. I normally make up for it after the races because I sign until I'm the last one there, and sometimes that's after midnight.

Your pretty loyal to your fans, regardless they love you so what keeps you around so late at these signings?

TP: Heck, I know what it was like to be them. Just a couple of year ago I had to wait in line for my hero's like Ezra Lusk, and Jeremy McGrath, so I understand what it's like to have the line cut off right in front of you.

Or do you just wait around because you figure the hot girls always come fashionably late?

TP: Yeah, that could be it, but that theory hasn't panned out so far.

Back flips, NO FEAR teammates, when are you going to get a Mohawk like Hart?

TP: Back Flip, (yeah), NO FEAR teammates (yeah), but I think the Mohawk is all Hart.

For a kid who is always going 100mph and getting dragged in every direction, what is it that keeps you going?

TP: I just keep it fun, and give it my all. How could I not keep going when I'm making a living doing something I love.
