Parks, Celebs, and Uncle Sam

SKT - Some places in the world are having a hard enough time getting a skate park built somewhere in the neighborhood. On Oahu, Hawaii, the debate isn't SHOULD we have one, it's WHERE will it go? There are two locations in the Hawaii Kai district that would be plausible, and community members are having a hard time deciding where the park should go.

MTN - Former German fashion model, Carolin Rahner, has chosen a new career for herself, pro mountain biking. As reported in FAZ.net, Rahner now rides for the Hamburg Bundesliga team Stevens-Jeantex, and has her sights on Olympic fame. Unfortunately, she may be stuck with the 'model' label for a while, but we'll see if she proves herself worthy of being called an athlete.

BMX -Add another victory in the fight for equal playtime in the skate parks. BMXriders.org reported that Louisville, KY, and Clarksville, IN, begin groundbreaking for their new skate parks. Both are scheduled to be completed by late summer, and bikes will be allowed.

MTX - Be all you can be is the theme at this years EA Sports Supercross. The first 30 men who register with Selective Service at Round 14 of EA SPORTS Supercross Presented by Speed Stick will receive an official EA SPORTS Supercross jersey, donated by SFX Motor Sports. The event takes place Saturday, April 21st at Texas Stadium (Irving, Tex.). Uncle Sam says that every man must register with Selective Service within 30 days of his 18th birthday, or else?

L&S - In case you haven't heard, Ramones' lead singer, Joey Ramone died Sunday afternoon, April 15, 2001, in a New York hospital after an extended battle with lymphoma. He was 49. Born Jeffery Hyman, Joey Ramone was undergoing cancer treatment at the hospital when he died. As part of the band that pioneered punk rock, Joey will be sorely missed by his fans and friends. Rattle some wings in heaven for us, man.
