Jake Brown used his vert dynamics to qualify today for X Games VIII. I caught up with him after his big display of ramp trickery and grilled his cheese.
DF: Jake how were you feeling today and what are your thoughts on going to the X Games?
JB: I felt a little bit shaky in practice because we didn't get that much practice yesterday, it was super windy. But everything started to come together when the runs were happening, so it was all good. And I'm stoked to be qualified for the X Games so everything is looking good for the future, nothing but happy.

The ramp is brand new, built specifically for this competition, how'd it feel underneath your skate?
It was good but I didn't really like the new surface, it's always too grippy when they first get it. It needs to be broken in and I wish it had an extension. But other than that I can't complain, it was great.
You had a solid run, big McTwists and a 720 on your last go. What are you most psyched on?
I was stoked just to do the 720 at the end, I wish I would have done it in a full run but I was hyped because it's only the second one I've ever done, so I'm pretty happy.

So you just got married, are you going to bring your wife to all your competitions?
She'll be coming to the X Games and Gravity probably, but for the little ones (comps) I'll just come by myself.
What's a typical day for you guys in Oceanside?
Typical day? Well she wakes up and goes to work 9-5 Monday through Friday and I just go and skate and we get along well and everything works. She cooks great and I clean the dishes (laughs). I love you April.

I've been trying to film a lot of stuff so I've been filming and then as the contests come up just catch on to 'em.
