I caught up with Carlos right after his EXPN Invitational Skateboard Park win. This win qualified him for X Games VIII in Philly and I grabbed him from the mob of TV, fans, crowd and various reporters before I mobbed him up with my little recorder device thing.

DF: Here I am with Carlos de Andrade, you're throwing big tricks all over this course, the kids are mobbing you, you just qualified for the X Games this summer, tell me man how's it feel?

CDA: I'm definitely happy with this, the results for sure, I've been at the X Games every year and this year I wasn't qualified so I was like I gotta work hard to be in the X Games again. So you know I did a good job and I'm stoked for myself for sure that I did good in this contest. And of course made some extra money which is good and to get the attention of the kids too.

Carlos livin' well after qualifying for X Games VIII.

You got a lot of tricks in your run today, the big b/s 180, kickflipping the pyramid, 360 flip over the deck gap - what were you stoked on?

Yeah I was stoked on the switch kickflip I did to the side (of the pyramid) I know people really don't care because it's just a little trick. But the fact that it's switch. I don't do that many switch tricks you know, so whenever I do I'm stoked on 'em.

Now I know that you have a little superstition that if you qualify 1st in the prelims your not going to win the contest. You actually did that during this event, does that change your mind?

Well this is the first time it ever happened. I've qualified first in a few contests before but I never ended up first, always like 10 or 9 or 8. This is the first time I made it through to the finals like 1st in the prelims and 1st in the final.

So what's it mean for you to have broken that jinx?

I'm stoked you know, I hope I can repeat that (laughs).

Carlos was flying all over the pyramid today - kickflips, b/s 180s, nollies and some good old fashioned big ass ollies.

Now you just won some cash and I heard you just bought a house for your family, can you tell me a little about that?

Yeah, yeah I was saving money for a while and then I went back there and just bought this little place for my family and me whenever I go back there, so I'm stoked. And I definitely want to go back more often because all my friends are back there and I have so much fun when I go back there. But I understand that's my job to be here, you know and try to make it happen. But it's fun here because you get to skate a lot, so I like it.

Can you compare skating in Brazil to the US?

Whenever I go back to Brazil I really don't do anything, like I just skate for fun at the park around my house. I don't really do contests or tours or anything like that. But whenever I'm here I just concentrate on skateboarding - traveling or tours with my teammates or trying to get on magazines or videos or stuff like, more serious. Skateboarding is more serious here.

What's coming up next?

Well Monday I'm flying to Vancouver we have a contest next week there, so I'm doing that. Then I'm gonna spend 2 weeks in Canada and come back. Spend two days in California and then fly to Japan then come back. Then go to Hawaii then go to Europe then come back. This is my schedule that I know for now.

This crooked grind set the judges straight.

That's a crazy schedule man. Any thing else you want our people to know?

Yeah I just want to say thanks for all the kids that appreciate skateboarding you know? And the kids that love to skateboard not because it's cool or anything. The thing I want to tell them is that they don't have to hurry up on things, if they start skating they gotta skate for fun. Don't think about becoming sponsored or pro or whatever, because I think that happens too much here in the states, kids that just want to be pro right away. So I think that's wrong, you gotta skate because you like it. So I just want to say that to the kids, have fun with your skating.

Shout outs?

Yeah, Scurto at Oakley, all the Etnies guys, World Industries and Ezekiel.

Right on, well congrats man.

Cool, cool, thanks man.
