ESPN STAR Sports Press Statement

8 December 2001, Singapore:

We wish to announce that we have cancelled the Asian Xtour Singapore scheduled to take place this weekend at the Ngee Ann Civic Plaza. This is because our license to stage this event was revoked by the Public Entertainment Licensing Unit of the Singapore Government in view of the ongoing investigation into the case of the death at the event yesterday, 7 December 2001.

ESPN STAR Sports will continue to extend full cooperation and assistance to the investigations.

Rik Dovey, ESPN STAR Sports Managing Director: “It is unfortunate that the Asian Xtour Singapore will not take place. We at ESPN STAR Sports still believe that the Xtour and the sports featured in this event – bicycle stunts, aggressive inline skating and skateboarding – are credible sports and we look ahead to positive discussions on their future with the Singapore Government.”

“In the meantime, we continue to offer our sympathy and support to the bereaved family.”
