Inline steps up

What can I say, the vert skaters in Brazil stepped up. With their leading lady Fabiola da Silva in first place after the prelims and skaters like Marco de Santi, Alperto Japa and Cesar Andrade stepping on her heals. I must say it was a hot one out there today and having the whole competition in one day takes a toll on the skaters themselves. With only an hour break in between the prelims and the finals you could see the skaters starting to overheat. After many of the first runs in the finals, skaters would literally fall to the ground in pain due to muscle spasms. I think we didn't have enough bananas on the ramp.

One of my top picks for the day was Alberto Japa. This guy goes as high as any one, and I must say he has some of the cleanest stale 540's I've seen. He was ninth after the first runs and didn't fare any better in his second run due to some inconsistencies. Rafael Batista landed a few mctwists and 540's that secured him sixth place. The lone Columbian Gustavo Monsalve looked like he was in the sun a bit too long today, but with solid style and an arsenal of tricks that included mctwists, 720's and alley-oop fishbrains he found himself in the fifth spot. Felipe Oliveira and his flat spin 540's put him into the fourth spot.

The top three was a battle to the end. Cesar Adrade had a horrific fall in practice earlier in the day but made the finals and stgarted to feel a bit better by his last run. Starting out with a picture perfect 900 and not stopping there. A 720, fakie 540, and a few lip tricks including a kind grind. Later he found himself on the podium in third with an amazing run. Fabiola's consistency, not to mention her hefty bag of tricks is an amazing site to watch. She had an unfortunate fall in her second run and had to take her first run score. But the man of the day was definitely Marco de Santi. Massive airs and throwing 900 and 720's both ways while complementing all of that with a 900 and a double backflip attempt. He definitely deserves a first place medal and a trip to Philly this summer.
