Things can't get much better for you when you are covering an event in
Barcelona on the Puerto Olimpico. The area around here has a bit of
everything. To begin with, there is more than enough sun to go around. With
temperatures hovering in the mid-80's and very little wind, even strolling
down the wide walkway overlooking the beach can get you sweating. I still
haven't figured out if that is because of the heat or the incredible amount
of hot women everywhere.

The women here are off the chart. Smooth, tanned skin, most of which is
uncovered, only enhances their natural figures. The Spanish women have
fantastic bodies, and they look like they don't even have to work for it.
Their style of dress highlights it all without looking bad. They have eyes
that can knock you over from across the way. It's a perfect combination and
I haven't even stepped foot on the beach yet.
That brings us to our next subject, the beaches in Barcelona. They are
constantly packed at the Puerto from about 10am until 7pm or so. Now take
the guys in speedos out of the equation, because this is Europe and yes a
lot of men wear these to the beach. Why? Who knows, I wasn't about to go
around asking. Everything evens out though once I remember that this is
Europe and that many of the women here go topless. Now take that perfect
body from the last paragraph and pretty much remove all clothing. You are
now about as close to heaven as you can get on this planet. After overcoming
the initial feeling of being a kid in a candy store, you get used to all of
the flesh, but you never stop appreciating it. Most of the people on the
beaches here are hanging out for the sun, there are few who venture into the
water. They prefer to lay out and tan, or play some futbol or even dance.
On Friday at the Puerto there was a full club set-up on the beach. The DJ
had the wax out and was pumping house and trance through a good sound system
for most of the day. This seemed to be a warm-up for the night activities,
which are plentiful at the Puerto. After a full day in the sun, it's time to
head home for a little nap, because you have to be prepared for the madness
that is clubbing at the Puerto Olimpico.
Friday night on the club strip at the Puerto probably took a few years off
my life. I arrived there around 2:30am, after eating and hanging out on Las
Ramblas for a few hours. Things here were in full swing. The bar/club area
at the Puerto is a long strip of mini clubs and bars, with most having some
form of techno or salsa music to dance to. There is a lot to choose from and
there is no cover charge for any of the places so it's best to explore. I
thought I was in good shape when I got there, but once you are in the middle
of a group of Spanish women with a Red Bull and vodka in hand and some house
music blasting, things go downhill quickly.
The hours and drinks passed by and before I knew it I was wondering what my
name was and why it was 5am and I was still dancing. We hit most every club
on the strip and when we closed down one of the places at 6am, it was time
to get to bed. At this point the sun was rising on the other side of the
beach which was pretty cool. A nice cap to a great evening.
Now a normal cab ride back to the hotel was about 5 euros ($5). After
finally flagging down a yellow and black it was off to the hotel. A short
trip down the street and the cabbie stops and turns off the car. "Veinte
euros" was all he said. 20 euros, and he wanted them now. I tried to argue,
putting together what I thought was some great Spanish from my high school
years, but my buddy just laughed and after a bit I handed over the money and
we were off. Apparently after 3am or so, the cab drives just charge whatever
they want. I mean after a night of hard partying, who is going to walk home?
As I finish up this little rundown of a cool part of Spain, I can see the
moon rising over the water and things have cooled down a bit. A great end to
the Barcelona trip and to this story.
