World famous skateboarding sensation Bucky Lasek and bicycle stunt star Jamie Bestwick will appear as honored guest pro athletes at the inaugural European X Games Qualifier in Barcelona, July 20-22. Both athletes will appear in pro demo sessions, which will be held daily during the three day event at the Barcelona Pier.

At the 2000 X Games in San Francisco, British biker Jamie Bestwick outscored five time vert champion Dave Mirra to capture the Gold medal. He is considered the best biker to come out of Europe and has been a competitive bicycle stunt rider for ten years. Bestwick is broadly recognized as one of the top actions sports athletes in the world.

Bucky Lasek's Gold medal winning score of 98.5 during the 2000 skateboarding vert final is the highest score in the competition's history. He attained national prominence during the 1999 X Games when he defeated skateboarding legend Tony Hawk to take the Gold medal in the skateboarding vert competition. Lasek, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, has competed in X Games competitions since 1997.

The European X Games Qualifier in Barcelona will feature over 250 of the top action sports athletes from countries such as Spain, France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom competing in various events within the four sport categories of skateboarding, bicycle stunt, aggressive in-line skating, and wakeboarding. The athletes will be vying for prize money, medals, and the most coveted award of all-a qualifying place in the upcoming 2001 X Games in Philadelphia in the United States, August 17-23.

The debut of the X Games Qualifier in Europe is a chief component of ESPN's plan for a major year-round global expansion of its X Games franchise. Over the next eight months, nearly a dozen X Games-related events will be staged on five different continents, including the X Games, the Winter X Games, the Junior X Games, and the Asian X Tour.
