Feb. 03, 2002

3 February 2002, Kuala Lumpur: The Asian X Games Qualifier IV presented by Toyota came to a colorful and electrifying conclusion today. After competition and pro demos had ended Malaysia's Minister of Youth and Sports, Datok Hishamuddin Bin Hussein announced the addition of Moto X to next year's qualifier and Toyota revealed the continuance of their presenting sponsorship.

Although Moto X won't be a competitive category at next year's game, its featured pro demo is seen as the first step in its inevitable inclusion into the Asian X Games Qualifier. The competitive categories at present are skateboarding, aggressive inline skating, bicycle stunt, wakeboarding and sport climbing.

To add more good news, Katsuyoshi Tabata, Manager of Toyota's Overseas Marketing Division announced Toyota's commitment to continue as presenting sponsor of the Asian X Games Qualifiers for 2003 and 2004 which are all taking place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

23,500 spectators feasted their eyes on two pro demonstrations featuring some of the world's best action sport athletes during the last day of competition. Led by the most awarded bicycle stunt athlete in X Games history, Dave Mirra, the pros kept the crowd on the edge of their seats with a skillful, breathtaking and nerve wracking demonstration and high flying action.

Besides the pro demos, The last day of competition saw a lot of exciting stunts and tricks during more finals. During the bicycle stunt vert finals, Seiji Saito of Japan claimed the gold with a score of 90.75 followed closely by Australian Rob Smith who scored a 90.63. Third place went to Shuji Ueyama of Japan with a score of 88.50.

No big surprises at the much-awaited final competition for aggressive inline skating doubles vert when the Yasutoko brothers took first place over Australian duo Fogarty and Heslop. Japan's Kitamura and Inagaki took the bronze but shared the limelight with the Yasutoko brothers when the four successfully executed a fourth cross air - four skaters jump from one side of the vert overlapping one another - a first in X Games history.

Indonesians ruled the sport climbing speed finals as all the medals for the top three spots in both the men's and women's competition, except for third place in the men's division, went to Indonesian hands.

Aussies climbed the podium again in the skateboarding park final, when Darren Peter Kaehne claimed Gold and a berth to the X Games VIII (August 2002) and compatriot Jeff Williams, silver. Anselm Leo Marco Castaneda from the Philippines walked away with the bronze, the only Filipino to receive a medal at the Asian X Games Qualifier IV.

The aggressive inline skating park finals had the younger Yasutoko, Takeshi winning the gold medal with brother Eito winning bronze. Ian Brown from Australia won the silver.

In addition to the interactive village, spectators enjoyed onsite musical entertainment from entertainment from bands: Pop Shuvit, Dragon Red, and Reefa one of the most popular rappers in the hip-hop world of Malaysia
