Word Definition
Scuffing Using feet on the tires to maintain speed, brake, or stall the bike.
Seat angle The angle formed between the seat tube and the ground. Steeper angles are better for sprinting and out of the saddle climbing, whereas slack seat angles are better for high speed downhill racing, creating more predictable handling charachteristics.
Seat post Post that the seat is attached to, to be inserted into the seat tube.
Seat tube Bicycle frame tube that is the center of construction. The tube into which the seat post is inserted.
Seatstay The tubes that connect the rear dropouts to the seat tube.
Semi-slicks Tires with low-profile tread. In between slicks and knobbies.
Sick Big, crazy, cool, incredibly difficult.
Skid Lid A helmet.
Slicks Tires with no tread. Great for training or road riding.
Smith The front peg grinding with back tire on top of obstacle.
Spine ramp Two half pipes placed back to back creating a double U shape.
Squirrelly Slightly out of control, can also refer to speed wobbles.
Stack (n/v) Crash.
Stall When a rider pauses briefly on the coping before dropping back into the ramp.
Steam roller Riding forward with one foot on a front peg, using the other foot for balance with one hand holding the handlebar, and the other hand holding the seat with the frame of the bike in front of you.
Superman Where a rider takes bolth feet off the pedals in the air and stretches his legs as far behind the bike as possible. Looks like Superman flying holding on the handlebars, hence the name.
Table Top When a rider flattens his bike out into the horizontal plane in the air, then straightens it back out to land.
Tailwhip Where a rider whips his bike around the axis of the handlebars, while keeping the handlebars and his body stationary, and landing back on the bike before hitting the ground. Double Tailwhips (two bike rotations) are also popular, but extremely difficult.
Tire Tap Where a rider's back wheel is on the deck and the front wheel is in the air, balancing for a moment before dropping back in to the ramp.
Tombstone A vertical portion of a ramp that rises above the rest of the top of the ramp to add more vert. Resembles a rectangular tombstone on top of the ramp.
Transition The point where a ramp or jump goes from the horizontal plane to the vertical plane.
Truck Driver A regular 360 while simultaneously spinning the handlebars 360 degrees. A double Truck Driver would be spinning the bars 720 degrees.
Turndown Where a rider turns the handlebars and his body down towards the ground while the rest of the bike stays facing straight up.
Vert The half-pipe event. A half-pipe is like a big "U" with two transition areas at either end that extend to vertical stands, separated by the flat bottom in between.
