ESPN, The Worldwide Leader in Sports, has unveiled the first broadband and on-demand subscription service, EXPN, Action Sports On Demand centering on the ESPN X Games franchise. The television and PC-based effort will leverage and build on the ESPN X Games franchise and ESPN's action sports library. The service will launch in conjunction with Winter X Games VII in February of 2003 and will provide X Games content and other action sports video, audio, music and information to action sports fans.

"We've launched this EXPN service in the growing way in which the action sports market segment consumes sports, on demand through the computer, subscription and digital television," said George Bodenheimer, ESPN President. "This service will become a destination where Action Sports fans congregate through chat sessions and instant messaging as well."

"ESPN continues to seek out new ways to create value for our affiliates, and this is a significant advancement in the VOD and broadband arena. EXPN Action Sports On Demand will not only sell and retain cable modem and digital cable customers, but allow affiliates to secure incremental revenue in the broadband universe."

EXPN, Action Sports On Demand is a multi-platform subscription on-demand service. This effort will include daily updated content with video highlights and fresh longer-form content from the wide-range of action sports, including daily 30-minute Action Sports news for both cable modem and VOD subscribers. The products will display highlights from skate parks across the country and will showcase videos of the day, more in-depth coverage during the X Games, Winter X Games, Action Sports and Music Awards, and the X Games Global Championship. ESPN will make its vast Action Sports archives available to this effort, in addition to introducing original content.
