Santa Fe Springs, CA (September 12, 2002) - The Vans Championships of BMX come to Oceanside, CA drawing the world's best BMX riders for four days of action, October 3-6. The event, the third and final stop of the Vans Triple Crown of BMX , is free for all attendees and will be broadcast on Fox Sports Net this fall. Many of the sport's biggest names including Dave Mirra, Ryan Nyquist, Stephen Murray, and Cory Nastazio will be competing for a share of the $105,000 purse and a Ford Ranger FX4.
"There is not a better place to battle out the finals of the Vans Triple Crown of BMX than Oceanside", said Steve Van Doren, vice president of events & promotions for Vans. "Last year more than 60,000 fans attended the weekend and with a close race for the title on the line, fans will witness the best BMX riders in the world pulling out mind-blowing tricks in Street, Dirt, Vert and in the Bowl."
Nyquist began the Vans Triple Crown season by claiming the top spots in Dirt and Street at the Right Guard Xtreme Sport World Championships and then following that up with a first at the Mountain Dew National Championships of BMX in June. Coming into the final stop, Nyquist is in the lead with 200 points, with Kevin Robinson and Chris Doyle close behind with 170 points.
