Nyquist Wins Vans BMX Triple Crown Overall

Ryan Nyquist crowned the 2003 Vans Triple Crown of BMX Champion for the Second Consecutive Year.
Oceanside,CA The Vans Championships of BMX, the third and final stop of the Vans Triple Crown of BMX series, finished Sunday with Ryan Nyquist (Greenville, NC) and Steve McCann (Melbourne, AUS) earning top honors each in the Dirt and Street competitions, respectively. With his first place finish in Dirt, Nyquist is crowned the 2003 Vans Triple Crown of BMX Champion and pocketed more than $14,000 and a Ford Ranger FX4 in the process.
In the Street competition, McCann stomped the field in his first of two runs scoring a 95.33 and beating out second-place finisher Nyquist who notched a 94.00. Scott Cranmer (Jackson, NJ) placed third in the street competition with a score of 92.67.
On the Dirt course, Nyquist's 94.67 edged out Chris Doyle (Pittsburgh, PA) and McCann in a very close scoring among the top three finishers. Doyle placed second with an average of 92.83 and McCann 92.67 for third place.
On Friday in Vert, Jimmy Walker (Chicago, IL) took first followed by Dennis McCoy (Kansas City, MO) and Koji Kraft (Chicago, IL) placing second and third, respectively.
