Bits And Pieces

Have you ever felt like you've been left out of all of the little goings on and inside jokes of the BMX world? Well, if you have, this new section is just what you've been waiting for. We'll be putting all the news that isn't fit to print in this section. Basically this means that all the random information that doesn't really need a lot of explanation will be going here (i.e. the number of times Jared falls down or spills something each day, how often Scot hurts himself doing something stupid, things like that).

Monday, June 25, 2001
Robbie Morales was seen riding in a neon green helmet at the Vans park in Orange, California. Could Rob-o be making an attempt to bring back the 80's on his own? Look for a limited edition Fit Series One in day-glo pink to be hitting local shops soon.

Wednesday, June 20, 2001
Marvin Loetterle (S&M) blew out his left knee during street practice at the Vans Triple Crown of BMX. He was going for a tailwhip transfer but a thorn had punctured his tube and his tire slid out as he hit the transition. Marvin landed double stiff legged and twisted his knee. He goes in for an MRI on Monday so check back later for more info.

Wednesday, June 20, 2001
Chenga World skatepark now has a 24 foot wide, 10 feet tall vert ramp outdoors that is layered in Skatelite. Pat Schaeder also informed us that Commercial Bikes are available through Chenga.

Tuesday, June 19, 2001
UGP has picked up Jim Cielencki (Kink) and Adam Baker (S&M). Look for all of them to be sporting anti-establishment slogans from the underground soon.

Tuesday, June 19, 2001
Village Clothing out of Toronto, Canada now sponsors the Dirt Brothers team. Look for Vic Murphy, James Sibley, and others to be sporting black Village T's. For more info check out the Village and Dirt Bros. Web site.

Wednesday, June 13, 2001
George Hoernig has decided to leave 2-Hip. He was overheard saying, "I'm not going to worry about it. I'm just going to buy a bike and have fun."

Wednesday, June 13, 2001
Rumor has it that Cory Nastazio paid $1200 for a Mastiff puppy. We're not sure how long he's going to hold on to it because it's also rumored to be shitting all over the house. Now that's nasty!

Friday June 8, 2001 Chenga will have a vert ramp completed sometime within the next two weeks. The ramp is being transplanted from a local rider's backyard, and will sit outside the skatepark, in the rear of the building. Pat Schreader is currently working on the transplant, so the ramp is in good hands. In other Chenga area news, FBM has picked up Cleveland ripper Billy Delfs.

Wednesday June 6, 2001 Ryan Sher has been back on the east coast traveling around for a few months. His signature Honda Prelude has been pulled over a record four times in one week, and now has bullet holes in the side of it. The Prelude has also learned wallrides, so expect a video part in the upcoming Kink video. Ryan also bruised his heel yesterday, so he has no choice but to shred the Prelude.

Tuesday June 5, 2001 Schwinn's Justin Marchak recently tore the ACL in his "good knee." This takes him off of his bike for the summer and off the roster for the Schwinn tour. Speaking of the Schwinn tour, it will be starting off in Colorado in a couple of weeks.

Tuesday June 5, 2001 Animal Bikes continues to add to its roster of East Coast shredders, and this time it has picked up Joe "Butcher" Kowalski. In other Animal news, Ralph Sinisi has grown a full beard, which he claims "Gets him a lot of chicks." As far as the new movie "Animal" starring Rob Schneider is concerned, it has no ties to the bike company and appears to be a complete pile of crap.

Tuesday June 5, 2001 Greg Walsh reports that John Povah has purchased a cordless Sawzall. This hand held cutting tool will be aiding in the creation of many new street spots in Southern California.

Monday June 4, 2001 We reported a couple of months ago that Van Halen had issued Schwinn a cease and desist order regarding Van Homan's signature frame, the "Mean Street" in "Van Homan: Rider Down." It turns out that part of the agreement was for Schwinn to give Eddie Van Halen a couple of the frames. This means that Van Homan probably has a spot on Eddie Van Halen's wall (or at the least in his storage closet).

Monday June 4, 2001 Transworld BMX'seditor Keith Mulligan had major surgery on his abdominal area last week. Today he dropped in for a few turns on our ramp. Now, that's a quick recovery! Congratulations Keith.

Friday June 1, 2001 Both Matt Beringer and Scott Wirch are new homeowners. Matt's new house is on a one acre lot in Utah and has six bedrooms. Scott's 2,000 square foot home is in Pro haven Greenville, North Carolina.

Friday June 1, 2001 Andy Contes (Haro) graduated from the University of Arizona a couple of weeks ago. Andy now has a Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Congratulations Andy!

Wednesday May 30, 2001 The new Sports Illustrated for Kids has a full-page article on T.J. Lavin (Specialized). It's not very in depth, but it gives a little background info on T.J. that you might not know. There is also a trading card of Jamie Bestwick (GT) in that same issue.

Wednesday May 30, 2001 There have been a few sponsorship changes over the past couple of weeks, so I'm just going to list the ones I know of here. Dave Jacobs, is now riding for Volume Bikes. Adam Aloise is riding for Commercial Bikes after his former sponsor, Gary Fisher, dropped its BMX program. "Smoker" Dave Schilling is no longer riding for Four Bikes. Garret Byrnes is on the Etnies flow team.

Wednesday May 30, 2001 Keith came back from a road trip a couple of weeks ago and found that a good portion of his office was wet. Keith accused Jared of spilling something in his office, but Jared denied it. Later, we found out that the water heater in the offices next to ours had burst. It just so happens that Keith Mulligan's office shares a wall with said water heater, and this led to soaked carpet in Keith's office. Two weeks and several visits from various maintenance people later and Keith's office still has wet carpet, but now the entire editorial department at Ride Publishing smells like nasty feet.

Friday May 25, 2001 Two people from the IT (information technology) department for AOL came to our office to install software that would enable them to "fix" our computers remotely. After their visit, my computer crashed 15 times today. Great job.

Thursday May 24, 2001 Sean Parker has quit 2-Hip, and is traveling the Northwest doing shows for Perfection on Wheels.

Thursday May 24, 2001 Jared Souney has been on a road trip back East for the last week. Today he called to tell me that little kids are heckling him about spilt coffee. That made my day!

Thursday May 24, 2001 Brian Tunney has informed me that Garrett Byrnes is no longer riding for Duffs as I had earlier stated in "Hoffman Signs With Duffs Shoes." Sorry about the confusion.

Thursday May 17, 2001 Brian Tunney submitted the following news for "Bits and Pieces." "[Steve] Crandall traded a frame for a VW Golf today, and I started lacing up a pair of black Hoffman rims for my bike. I hope you can appreciate the dichotomy between us and Jerry Bagely. Take care, Brian"

Thursday May 17, 2001 Yesterday evening, Glenn P.P. Milligan's manual skills sent him crashing straight into the hood of Jared's recently detailed car. Glenn's lack of bar ends left Jared with an eight-inch scratch across his hood. The Saturn has been defaced.

Wednesday May 16, 2001 10:00am Jared Souney spilt coffee in his lap. It wasn't as big as his normal spills are, so I was disappointed.

Wednesday May 16, 2001 Jerry Bagley (Mosh) recently purchased custom wheels for his Ford Expedition. Bagley is now rollin' on 22s. Bling! Bling!

Tuesday, May 8, 2001 Van Homan, Rob Dolecki, and Bob Scerbo went to ride a pool in Pennsylvania this morning; while they were riding a worker pulled up so they split. Van got separated from Bob and Rob and ended up running 20 miles before calling Little Devil owner, Derek Adams, to come pick him up.

Tuesday, May 8, 2001 Jared Souney reports that Chris Beecher of Dirt Master has blue hair today.

Wednesday, May 2, 2001 Huffy is now the official bike sponsor of the 2001 King of Dirt series. The long-running dirt jumping contest series recently parted ways with GT, its previous bike sponsor and it was the perfect opportunity for Huffy to step in. Panasonic Shockwave and Chevy Tracker continue to sponsor the contest series as well. As an added bonus, the King of Dirt contests will be held alongside the Panasonic Shockwave Core Tour, a four-stop action sports and music festival that is sponsored by Transworld BMX in addition to the above mentioned companies. For more information check out the Panasonic Shockwave Core Tour Web site.

Wednesday May 2, 2001 It looks like the City Council in Long Beach, California has approved a motion to recommend a BMX park. They have asked the Parks and Recreation department to do a study and return the results to the council as soon as possible.

Friday April 27, 2001 FBM's Brock Yoder had surgery on his wrist yesterday. The injury was over a year old so the surgery required a bone graft from his hip. Brock should be healed up in a few months, however he will remain on probation.

Friday April 27, 2001 11:00am Adam Banton stopped by the offices today and he signed his Bluetorch ad for me. I was stoked, until I saw that he misspelled my name.

Friday April 27, 2001 We're a little late getting this one out there, but Charles Townsend has recently moved to Elk Grove, California. Charles has lived in the San Jose area for 26 years, so this is quite a change for him. " It's weird because I was raised [in San Jose], and I really like that area, but [the cost of living is] just out of control."

Thursday, April 19, 2001 4:00pm Robbie Miranda (DK/1-800-COLLECT) came by the office to ride the ramps and he pretty much had the entire soundtrack to the movie "Rad" on CD. He listened to Soft Cell's "Send Me An Angel" at least three times. Robbie was also heard saying that racing "has gone to the goons."

Thursday, April 19, 2001 2:00pm Aaron "Mowser" Nardy (Standard) stopped by the office today to show us his swell-bo. It's one-third the size of a softball, and he's had it for three weeks. His doctors can't figure out what it is or how to get rid of it.

Wednesday, April 18, 2001 Ride Publishing recently hired a new circulation manager by the name of Jennifer Hardison. About the same time she started working here, we noticed that there was a Hoffman Little Deebo in the office. It turns out that it's Jennifer's and she's been riding for a little over a year now. She's a regular at Vans in Ontario, and she's already working on riding the ramp in the warehouse. Dope!

Tuesday, April 18, 2001 I (Scot) had to go to the orthopedist for the umpteenth time today. While I was there I read the Mat Hoffman interview in the new Transworld BMX.In the interview Mat talks about people who quit riding because they hurt their knees. Mat says, "I've always hated that excuse, 'I hurt my knee so I had to quit riding.' No you didn't. I've had six operations on my knee; there's nothing left of it. It's just easier to have an excuse why you stopped riding." Needless to say, after reading that I felt like a bitch. So when I left my orthopedist's office (who ordered me to have my second MRI in two months), I went home, grabbed my bike, and went riding.

Friday, April 13, 2001 11:30am I had a "Pure Protein" bar for breakfast today. It says that it has 40% of the recommended daily intake of protein. I don't know about that, but I do know that it cost me $3.50, tasted like shit, and two hours later I'm hungry again.

Wednesday, April 12, 2001 Ryan O'Connel said that he has learned how to skateboard. "It's kind of fun," said Ryan, but that's about all he had to say about it.

Sometime during the week of April 9-12 Fuzzy Hall and some of the Utah locals were digging in Fuzzy's yard when they dug up a buried horse. Yep, the entire horse! Apparently the thing smelled pretty bad, but they took the head and bleached it, so Fuzzy now has a horse's head hanging in his basement.
